PS2 games

trying to save some money recently i asked a friend visiting san francisco to pick up a couple of games that my son wanted. they have done thesame and had no problem but unfortunately mine dont work, comes up with some message saying something like insert disc. have written to virgin to ask how i can go about getting a refund but have not heard anything yet, any suggestions greatly received?????

    afaik ps2 games are region locked.

    the only way to play ps2 games from the us is to get a US spec ps2. there is another way (chipping) but im not allowed to discuss that on here
