Changing a Bulgarian car licence for a UK licence

I'm a UK national who has returned to the UK after 8 years working in Bulgaria. I transferred my UK licence to a Bulgarian licence in 2019 and now want to change it back to a UK licence. The DVLA website is not accepting a Bulgarian address (I have only been back in the UK for one month and they want a 3-year address history).  The DVLA chat is not working. The website says I don't need to renew an EU driving licence, which might be correct information today, but I assume this will be invalid from 1 January 2021 when the UK is no longer part of the EU (my Bulgarian licence is an EU licence).  Just to add, the number of my original UK licence is printed on the back of my Bulgarian licence.  Any suggestions how I should proceed?

You need to get form D1 from DVLA.

Remember that DVLA are in Wales. Even ignoring the current "firebreak", they were way behind on anything that wasn't online, since Wales was locked down longer than other parts of the UK.

Thanks Adrian, appreciate your reply. The D1 form from the DVLA is only available online and it won't accept the Bulgarian address (it accepts "Bulgaria" but nothing else) and then says it has no record of my licence.  I'll see if I can get a D1 form from the Post Office.  I appreciate there's a long delay and I don't have a problem with that, just want to be sorted before Brexit hits. the gov.uk site is well out of date with regards to information, saying my Bulgarian licence is valid until I'm 70, which is far ahead of the licence expiring in 2029.

I don't see why holding a Bulgarian licence will have any impact on your previously held UK licence.  Just apply for a new UK photocard licence and you should be fine.  It will of course help if you have your UK driving licence number.

AFAIK the OP would have had to surrender his UK licence to get the Bulgar one. He now has to do the reverse.
