Chrome, Cloud, Notebook, Notepad.................

Can someone please explain what the difference is between all of these ?

I have a refurbed Lenovo Thinkpad that is driving me potty.  Some days it types fine and then others I will be typing gobbledegoop.  Not deliberately.  Then it rights itself.

Am looking for a new laptop but keep getting confused with all that's on offer.  I just want a laptop with Windows 10.

Also, if you have the time, can someone point me in the direction of a pamphlet or website that explains what all the specs on a computer do.  Still struggling to understand.

many thanks

Chrome is a web browser. A Chromebook is a type of laptop that runs a version of Android.

Cloud is a term used for storing files etc. online ... e.g. most things in your Google account will be backed up to the Cloud if you have sync enabled.

A Notebook is basically another name for a laptop. Most laptops will be sold with Windows 10 installed.

Notepad is a text editor app that exists in Windows.
  • Thank you WD

So am going to avoid a Chrome book/Android.  I know for those that are brilliant at technology these questions must seem ludicrous but I really do find keeping up difficult.  I need to sit down and learn properly what all the specs mean so that I can make an informed choice.  I have tried to read other threads but the mind boggles sometimes.

But thank you.........you have given me a place to start.

  • My Lenovo keyboard went south and I have a wireless keyboard and mouse which work great. Might be worth considering.   B)
  • Thank you GD

never thought of that.  It would sort immediate problem whilst I sit and take time to learn and consider.

  • I mentioned it as my missus sloshed a cup of coffee over it and some of the keys disappeared and others repeated for line after line. I bought  wireless keyboard and mouse and everything ended up fine.

Maybe (?) a wired keyboard USB would be cheaper?
Maybe you could upgrade the machine that you have - if you tell us the exact make/model (with service tag if possible) then someone will be along with suggestions to spend around £50 rather than £500
    :)
