How do I use an MPAN number
I have just moved into a new property and automatically changed the electricity supply to the cheapest. I have now found out that a Biometric disk used by the property and another 5 properties was registered at my address and has supposedly moved with my change in supplier.
The bio disk is actually on next doors land and they have always dealt with the bill (cost is shared with all properties). I have been asked to change the meter to their name as they have been unable to do it due to it being registered at this address.
I have checked my account with my new supplier and the meter number is the same as the one in my property so I can't see how the bio disk has changed supplier as well.
I have found out the MPAN number for my property and the MPAN number for the bio disk but I have no idea what to do with them, all my searches online just tell me how to obtain the MPAN number.
Long story short, how can use the MPAN number to get the bio disk registered with next door

Does the bio disk have its own metered supply?
assuming (from what you've written) that it does, the supplier should be able to amend the bio disk address - and really should have it written as something like
Landlord supply for etc etc
You will not be able to get the mpan number registered with next door on your own....who pays the bill? it would be them who would be able to do that.
But basically you would approach your supplier with your mpan number and ask them to amend the address details...I would also contact your local DNO and ask them to change the address details connected to the mpan.

Hi All,
I'm not one to reignite old posts but at the same time I like it when a thread comes to a conclusion.
I finally got to the bottom of what happened with the MPAN and what people need to do if the same thing happens to them. The house I purchased was owned by the couple that built all the properties on my street. Since we live in the depths of the countryside all the houses are connected to two biodisks (septic tanks basically). All the houses share the cost of these and since the couple build the houses it was easier to have everything registered at this address, despite the fact the biodisks are not on my land.
Over time people forgot this information and the addresses registered for the biodisks changed but the MPAN remained. I had to contact my original supplier to get the issue rectified, unfortunately they ignored me for over a year despite numerous emails etc. and the complaint was escalated to the ombudsman who found in my favour.
The energy company finally sent someone to my house and I showed them my meter, next doors meter for the biodisk and another biodisk down the road (5 houses down from mine).
May this year I finally have the correct bills and one MPAN for my address.
This post may read a bit gibberish but if anyone gets into an issue regarding an MPAN then I would be happy to try and help.3
