ordered a bed online from wayfair, rang them up and told them about it, asked for a goodwill gesture from them and they said no, they offered to arrange collection and I said I would call them back in a few days to agree this and they have sent me an email arranged collection for tomorrow when I am at work all day, are they allowed to do this without my permission?, they also said they would invoice me for the bed if I didn’t return it, when it was me who contacted them very upset with them bed cost £250

It's their property so you need to take reasonable care of the goods and make them available for collection.
If you don't then yes, they could chase you for damages/the value of the goods.
However it should be at your convenience. They can't dictate when they're going to collect. Give them a list of dates it's convenient then tell them to let you know in advance which one they'll be collecting. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
You’ve probably got their back up by immediately asking for compo for getting a parcel twice. You probably got their back up a second time when you said you’d ‘call back later’ with a date they could get their item back.
check your calendar. There can’t be much on it nowadays. Get them a date and stick to it.
these things truly aren’t that hard but people make them harder than they need to. You didn’t need a goodwill gesture.2 -
"Goodwill gesture"....give me strength. What is it with people and the rush for compo at the slightest mistake?7

Maybe just maybe the OP did not know what work shifts they would be given the next week
If the supplier's back gets up as a result of this tough
I have fallen foul of such stupidity in the form of a courier delivering a swap out phone at our old office, and failing to ask the receptionist for the old one and then their first communication saying that they would call the police if we did not return it.
I told EE that I did not appreciate their idiotic couriers calling ma as their customer dishonest
The best was a letter that had actually been sent in the mean time asking for us to return the phone turned up much delayed without enough postage on it
The poor lamb at the courier told me he felt I was harassing him when I rang up to ask what sort of courier co does not know how much postage to put on a letter

I just get the impression that some people are just not quite ready to use electronic ordering.Past caring about first world problems.0
