EDF refusing to replace non-working SMETS1 meter with SMETS2 - What are my options?

My thoughts are with moving to British Gas who indicate they will upgrade the meter for me - how true is that?
EDF say wait until the technology comes available where the firmware will be upgraded but give no time scales.
EDF say go back to EON who installed the original SMETS1.
Can I progress this complaint to the Ombudsman?
Thanks

In what way is it not working ? No display or IHD or is it dumb and you are providing readings ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -

Over 12M SMETS1 meters have been installed. The DCC has an enrolment and adoption programme for these meters that began in 2019 and will run on through into 2021 as a result of COVID-19. I know that Octopus has taken a decision not to enrol its cohort of SMETS1 meters pending today’s roll back to GMT. It is just not practicable, or affordable, for suppliers to replace these meters. If you have a SECURE SMETS1 meter there are a number of suppliers that use this meter; eg, Octopus.0

It's unlikely that another supplier will come out and change your meters if they have a plan to enrol SMETS1 meters (however long it might take). There really isn't a great deal of incentive to change a smart meter for another one.
You might be lucky if another supplier can support you specific meter on their existing system.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Sorry to ask but what is DCC?0

You could also have a shufti at this - but as most of the stuff is undated it's hard to really understand how much of it is real, is happening, has happened or is just " pie in the sky" thinking

If you look at the dcc website, they have some figures which currently stand at " 1,744,775 Total SMETS1 meters migrated ".It seems to go up by about 100K a month so it might be a while.0

It will all go pear shaped when they run out of rows on Excel! But at that rate all the SMETS1 gas meters will need replacing anyway by the time they're connected due to flat batteries.
More worrying is that we're apparently still installing 12k SMETS1 meters a month.0
