Hi,
Please could someone advise me on what to do and how to contact Npower about an issue with them that was back in 2015.
Please could someone advise me on what to do and how to contact Npower about an issue with them that was back in 2015.
Basically, I received a letter stating I had a credit of £133 from Npower. I thought great, however a few weeks later I received another letter saying I owed them £133. I called Npower asking why this has happened? They said i owed the money and that was that. I asked to speak to a supervisor/manager. I didn’t here back and one week later I received a CCJ and letters from their solicitors. I now owed £561. I was in a state of panic and just paid them. 6 months later I received a cheque from Npower for £133 which was the credit. I called Npower and tried to speak to someone about the CCJ and it was hopeless. At the time I had 2 young children under 4 and just left the situation. With great regret of doing this, it’s now 5 years later and I cannot get a mortgage because of the CCJ. I didn’t even think it would be on my file because it was their mistake. I love the house I want to purchase, have had good credit, but this dark hole Npower has put me in is making it hopeless. Is there anything I can do to remove it? Your help is much appreciated.
Kind regards
Rachel.
Rachel.

Are sure you have a ccj? There's a long process that a company have to follow before a ccj gets issued against you.
Have you checked your credit files with the CRAs?2 -

If you pay it off within a set time the record og a CCJ isnt recorded.

CCJ is definitely on there and it was from Npower, who obviously didn’t follow the correct procedures.0

If it's 5 years old and settled, it won't be holding you back from a mortgage.
Use a decent broker1 -
The CCJ is settled and 5 years old, little point into looking into the legality of it now.
Use a decent broker, there are a lot of lazy brokers who will see the CCJ and treat them all the same way. A decent broker will get you a mortgage and then you can remortgage once the CCJ has dropped off and get a better rate.1 -
It’s all a bit tricky as we can only use certain lenders because of my husbands overtime. Therefore, I must get hold of Npower somehow to rectify this issue. Does anyone have a contact for Npower in relation to this? Has anyone experienced a similar issue?0

Nothing to do with N-power any longer, you can only challange a CCJ by making an application to the court for a set aside, this has a cost of £255 and is supposed to be acted upon "in a timely manner" 5 years is not timely. It will be gone from your file in less than 12 months now, i suggest you wait till then.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. What date does the CCJ have on your credit report?A single, settled CCJ from five years ago, as others say, is not going to stop you from getting a mortgage. You might not get your first choice of lender, but you will be able to get a mortgage. It's more likely that it's other issues as well holding you back. The pandemic means a lot of lenders are demanding huge deposits and are being far more strict with their affordability checks, for example. As others have said, the CJJ will vanish from your credit file six years after the date of issue. If there isn't a pressing need for you to move right now, it might be worth waiting out the remaining period (especially if it's just a few months), and putting a bit extra cash into the deposit fund.Start Debt Jun 2020 = £10,036 - Current £5,894 | #324 £1,000 Emergency Fund Member - £2051
