I have been made redundant by text

I have worked at my company for over 7 years and been on furlough since March. I had a phonecall on the 14th of October to say that redundancies were being made and I needed to wait for a letter to arrive in the post. I asked if I was being made redundant as I was going away the week after and probably wouldn't get the letter until I got back, my boss told me he couldn't tell me and to wait for the letter in the post.
So, the following week while I am away I get a text message to say I'm being made redundant and that I will get another letter in the post.
When i arrive home from holiday I have the first original letter telling me I will be going through a consultation process to see if we can avoid redundancy and listen to any suggestions I have and will be invited to a meeting for this.
This clearly hasn't happened and I as of yet haven't received the second letter. I really think this is unacceptable and very unprofessional. Anyone been in this position and what do I do?
Thankyou in advance.

It's not unacceptable, and while it's not perfect, I'm not sure it's even unprofessional. The organisation can't wait for individuals to get back off leave before making critical decisions, and you don't deserve any special consideration just because you are on leave.
I would ignore the text, and submit your suggestions as to how they can avoid making you redundant. Consultations do work, I have direct experience of employers changing their minds to some small degree when useful suggestions have been made - your employer doesn't know everything about how your job adds value and they may no realise what they will lose if they make you redundant.
You won't actually be redundant until your employment ends, so I would use this time to plan for what you will do if you can't change their minds. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
A key point is are more than 19 people getting made redundant ? If so look up consultation on the world wide web0

Respond to the letter asking for a consultation meeting.0

Redundancy can be a shock but the key thing is to accept the job is over. Accept that and concentrate your energy on finding another job rather than conducting a futile battle about your hard feelings. Why would anyone want to work somewhere they are not wanted, either for the job or for them as a person (yes, I know redundancies are not supposed to be personal, but in the real world . . . ). I know this sounds harsh but it’s also the reality. Take it as an opportunity to move on, hopefully to something better.2
