Capital One Classic and Limits

I used to have 2 Capital One cards. One started with £800, the other £1000. Both were increased to £1500 within a year. Once I was able to get "normal" cards, I switched and I closed the Capital One cards down. I did have a Barclaycard one that started at £800 and went up to £2800, and a Marbles one that started at £500 and went up to £1500 as well.
Running them well pays off, and I got rid of these cards. One of my new ones started at £4200 - which was a shock as I hadn't expected that. (Plus I don't want to run that up!) I've been keeping an eye on my total available credit and closed all my "credit builder" type cards a while back. I've switched off automatic increases on my new cards now as I believe having too much available credit isn't great either - and I don't want it!0 -

I also have a Newday (Marbles) card that came with £600 limit and a 118118 card with £250.1 -
In response to the OP, I have been with Cap1 since 2014. It was my first ever credit card and I started with a credit limit of £1000. Only once did they offer me a credit limit increase and this was only for another £250. Every other time, I have had to request a credit limit increase. I did this once a year and each time they only offered me an additional £250. I'm now up to £2000 and tried to increase it last year. However, they have never allowed me to go above this, despite me having other credit cards which much higher limits. I rang them to ask why this is and basically they said £2000 is at the upper limit of what they would offer any customer.
Cap1 are fine for me as it's a legacy card which pays 0.5% cashback (which you can't get from any other provider nowadays) and the length of time I've been with them is good for my credit history. I also only use it as a back up for my Amex. However, if you're looking for a subprime lender who may be able to offer you a higher credit limit than £2000, I would look elsewhere.0 -
I have two CapOne cards.
The first started at £200 and within a year it was up to £1k. It is now on £3650. My second card started at £1k and has stayed there since 2013.
I opened an MBNA card and they gave me a limit of £6k to start. First Direct gave me £5k. In terms of New Day cards, they’re good. Limits your to £3,600. I’ve closed most of these now as I just didn’t use them and as one poster commented, it’s got a cash back facility which is rare today.FTB with Halifax

I had a Capital One Classic Platinum, which stayed at £200 after 14 months so I closed it. I also had a Very branded card which is also Capital One which I closed last week. Again, didn’t budge from 200 in 13 months.I have a Marbles card which started at £450 and was increased to £1450 in August (roughly 7 months) and a 118 card that started at 250, then in February was increased to 450 (6 months) then it was upped to 1200 last month (roughly around 7 months) I closed my Vanquis card finally last week, had enough of them messing me around with my limit- they tried the line of ‘oh keep using it and we might increase it’ to which I said why would I want to keep a card with a 250 limit when I’ve got 2650 available to me across two other cards? Funny, no reply to that.So now I only have the two cards.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
