I used to have 2 Capital One cards.  One started with £800, the other £1000.  Both were increased to £1500 within a year.  Once I was able to get "normal" cards, I switched and I closed the Capital One cards down.  I did have a Barclaycard one that started at £800 and went up to £2800, and a Marbles one that started at £500 and went up to £1500 as well.
Running them well pays off, and I got rid of these cards.  One of my new ones started at £4200 - which was a shock as I hadn't expected that.  (Plus I don't want to run that up!)  I've been keeping an eye on my total available credit and closed all my "credit builder" type cards a while back.  I've switched off automatic increases on my new cards now as I believe having too much available credit isn't great either - and I don't want it!

I have 2 Capital One cards (one is branded Luma) the Luma one had £200 credit limit when I got it in 2014 but was increased to £450 last year. The other Capital One card came with a £750 limit from the off.

I also have a Newday (Marbles) card that came with £600 limit and a 118118 card with £250.
I'm in the exact same situation with my Capital One LUMA card - had a starting limit of £200, increased to £450 after 9 months or so and it's been there for the last 2 years without any further increase. I make the occasional purchase to keep it alive as it is my oldest account but otherwise it just sits there. Logging onto their website there's an option to request an increase the limit but I always get a message saying that I can't request one and that they will write to me when I am eligible for an increase. It's done its job though and worked well as a stepping stone to better cards with better rates and limits.
I got my first CC last July with Cap One. £200 limit, increased to £450 after 5 months and hasn't moved since. I also cannot apply for an increase. I've since got 3 CC's with mainstream lenders with much higher limits. I just use it for Amazon and Spotify subscriptions. I think they're more interested in risky customers.

In response to the OP, I have been with Cap1 since 2014. It was my first ever credit card and I started with a credit limit of £1000. Only once did they offer me a credit limit increase and this was only for another £250. Every other time, I have had to request a credit limit increase. I did this once a year and each time they only offered me an additional £250. I'm now up to £2000 and tried to increase it last year. However, they have never allowed me to go above this, despite me having other credit cards which much higher limits.  I rang them to ask why this is and basically they said £2000 is at the upper limit of what they would offer any customer.

Cap1 are fine for me as it's a legacy card which pays 0.5% cashback (which you can't get from any other provider nowadays) and the length of time I've been with them is good for my credit history. I also only use it as a back up for my Amex. However, if you're looking for a subprime lender who may be able to offer you a higher credit limit than £2000, I would look elsewhere.

    I have two CapOne cards.
The first started at £200 and within a year it was up to £1k. It is now on £3650. My second card started at £1k and has stayed there since 2013.

I opened an MBNA card and they gave me a limit of £6k to start. First Direct gave me £5k. In terms of New Day cards, they’re good. Limits your to £3,600. I’ve closed most of these now as I just didn’t use them and as one poster commented, it’s got a cash back facility which is rare today.

I had a Capital One Classic Platinum, which stayed at £200 after 14 months so I closed it. I also had a Very branded card which is also Capital One which I closed last week. Again, didn’t budge from 200 in 13 months.
I have a Marbles card which started at £450 and was increased to £1450 in August (roughly 7 months) and a 118 card that started at 250, then in February was increased to 450 (6 months) then it was upped to 1200 last month (roughly around 7 months) I closed my Vanquis card finally last week, had enough of them messing me around with my limit- they tried the line of ‘oh keep using it and we might increase it’ to which I said why would I want to keep a card with a 250 limit when I’ve got 2650 available to me across two other cards? Funny, no reply to that.
So now I only have the two cards.

  • Just had an email from Marbles (NewDay) increasing my limit by a £1000. Only had the card since June.
