Checking the status of JSA claim

About two weeks ago I got a call from a work coach informing me of the temporary increase to Universal Credit and the new run-on payment, both of which I knew about. She was suggesting that I claim it now to take advantage of the increase. I said I probably wouldn't, and she said at the end of the call, "Like I say, it is up to you."

I know that if I made a claim for UC that would automatically close my JSA claim but it occurred to me that the Jobcentre might close it anyway because I said I didn't want to claim UC, and they seemed keen that I did. I've heard of DWP staff using underhand means to get people onto UC, but it's involved telling people they needed to claim UC when they didn't, so the closure of the legacy claim was triggered by the claimant submitting the UC claim not the Jobcentre closing it.

How do you check that a JSA claim is live? It's a worst case scenario but just thinking that if they had closed it, it might not become clear for a while, as I'd receive a final JSA payment and the run-on payment.

a work coach cannot close your claim.  Stop with the conspiracy theories and get on with your life.  At present nobody can make you claim UC, in fact nobody can ever make you claim it.  Perhaps the work coach was just telling you you would be entitled to more money and was being kind letting you know.

    Good to know.

I acknowledged in my OP that they most likely hadn't closed my claim.

Is it contributions based JSA ? If so it's possible to claim it alongside Uc but it would be deducted from UC pound for pound but with the covid increase on Uc, you would still get a little Uc on top.

It's Income-based JSA, but thanks for the info.
