Recently my MIL died. A few years back she made me some sloe gin as a Christmas present, which I'd forgotten about until a few weeks ago. After she passed, we had some friends round (when still allowed to!) and all drank a shot to her. It was quite 'syruppy' There's around 2 shots left and what I would dearly like to do is use the last of it as part of a cocktail and for all immediate family members (8 in total) to be able to have a drink on Christmas day, possibly even being able to put some in a small bottle for any family member driving. I know I'll need to add quite a bit more liquid to get enough volume for the drniks needed, but I'm happy with MIL's gin only be a part of the cocktail. At  the minute whether we will all be able to be together on Xmas day is up in the air due to current situation, so I'm happy to accept that it's not something I can mix together yet. Just looking for ideas on where to start.

What about adding a dash of sloe gin to a glass of champagne or Prosecco?

You can make a 'sloe gin Royale'  which is sloe gin in the bottom of the flute and topped up with a sparkling wine of choice

I recommend T*sco Cava for the Sloe Gin Royale and any similar drinks for instance Blackberry Liqueur Royale, Buck's Fizz etc. I find it is pleasant and doesn't have a particularly strong flavour of its own while being nicely alcoholic and sparkling so it makes a very good treat mixer and it is jolly good value for the money (around a fiver for a bottle).
I do think your idea of a memorial cocktail is a lovely one and wish you all the best with the occasion, goldfinches.

Thanks for replies and the tip about the Cava. I've looked up Sloe Royals but I have such a small amount of sloe gin (guesstimate 50-75ml) touse. What do you think if I mix the sloe with ordinary gin first before adding to the fizz?

    Google 'sloe gin fizz'.
Michael Portillo had one when he'd been clay pigeon shooting on his railway journeys. Apparently it's traditional after shoots.
Lots of recipes mention adding ordinary gin to the sloe gin.

I think as long as you still retain the hint of sloe gin, it will be fine.
    It's a nice idea.

Thanks, I've had a look at sloe gin fizz but got a bit unnerved by the requirement to make a simple syrup which I've not done before.
That's good that to add ordinary gin will be fine.

I would be tempted to 'water it down' with gin now to give it a couple of months to infuse with the sloe gin

Oh that's a good idea. It's currently in an old maple syrup bottle (an original one because MIL's sisters live in Canada). As we drank some of it recently, there's room for me to add ordinary gin to it. I can then add the fizz last minute and decant. I've found a gin fizz recipe that doesn't require me making a syrup.

Anyone got any tips on which 'plain' gin to use to add to the sloe? I don't want one where it overpowers the sloe

From the Guardian - no syrup making:

We all need a little pick-me-up in the depths of winter, and this’ll pick you up more than most. Serves one.

    15ml gin
    15ml sloe gin
    15ml lemon
    5ml sugar
Champagne, prosecco or cava, to top up (anything will do, so long as it’s not too sweet)
    Lemon twist, to garnish

Put all the ingredients apart from the fizz in a cocktail shaker, shake over cubed ice for a good 10 seconds, then strain into a champagne flute. Top with your fizz of choice, garnish with a lemon twist and serve.

Thank you, that Guardian one sounds ideal. I've also googled and seen a recommendation for Aldi gin for a classic flavour, so will get some next time I go and start the process.
I'll update as I go along.
    Thanks everyone for the help.
