Online SA107

My wife was a beneficiary of an estate and is required to complete an online SA107 for the 19/20 tax year. According to the letter from HMRC, she therefore has to buy commercial software to file her return.
She signed up for a 14 day free trial with Go Simple Tax only to find out afterwards that she had to pay if she wanted to increase her permitted monthly entries! It seems completely ridiculous that HMRC won't allow her to file the SA107 online and won't accept paper tax returns anymore.
Is there anyway around this?

They do accept paper returns, they just don't automatically issue them anymore.
If you can print it off yourself, you should still be able to get the paper return in on time (31st Oct). There won't be enough time if you need HMRC to send one thoughYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride1 -
For those interested in the outcome, she phoned HMRC who said that a paper SA107 with a covering letter can be used to amend her online self assessment tax return.1
