Its a consumable item and 12 years is a decent amount of time out of one.If the car is otherwise in good condition replace it, otherwise sell it with this issue highlighted.0

12 year old diesel, wonder how many miles it has done and how many long motorway runs it gets a month? Wonder if it was bought because of the MPG then driven into the city every day in rush hour? Lesson learned unfortunately, you have to drive a diesel like it needs to be driven. Either replace it as above or get a car that suits your driving style
