Backup software for Mac

Hi everyone (first post!) I am looking at decent backup software for the mac - any recommendations? There are so many programs and I wanted something simple and worth investing in, even better if free. I know about time machine, but wanted to see if anyone knew of any alternatives. Many thanks!

I'll give another vote to Carbon Copy Cloner, easy / intuitive to use. I've been booting from an external bootable clone HDD for the last six weeks without any problems at all.

Take a look on the CCC website / FAQs and it will tell you which CCC you need for whatever flavour OSX / MacOS you're running.
