Virgin Media Alternative?

Hi!
We've been with Virgin for a while and are very happy - just basic channels, a landline we don't use and broadband which we use a lot!
We're moving next month and when I checked on their website I discovered that VM is not available in the area we're moving to 😕
Not sure what our alternatives are so just looking for some advice please? I'm not sure if there's an aerial at the new house but it's only a few years old with aeriel sockets built in to the bedrooms so there possibly is?
We would basically like fast broadband and the option to record programmes - sometimes a couple at a time and set to record in advance etc.
We're currently paying £28 a month so around this price - or less, obviously 😂
Thank you in advance
FoxFace70 xx

You probably need to enter your new address ( you won’t have a phone number to use ) into a ‘checker’ site like,

    https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
this will return what’s available ADSL, FTTC , FTTP, and the estimated speed, then using whatever method you want ( recommendations, comparison sites ) , pick a provider and arrange a line/broadband to be installed, if all you want is ‘basic’ TV, then an aerial and Freeview should suffice, £28/month should be do-able for FTTC , chances are it will come with a phone service, if you don’t want or need that, don’t plug in a phone , just use the broadband .

I'm going to cut a common question off now before it gets asked:  If you're in contract with Virgin and you move to a non-Virgin area, you will be charged early termination fees.

If you want "record this programme" like you do with Virgin, the only other real option is Sky, but you can have Sky for TV only, you don't have to use them for phone or broadband.  There are other options like Freeview Recorders and Freesat and whatever else, but if you're used to the Tivo method, you may be disappointed.

That's definitely not good news Neil.
Has anyone had any success haggling over termination fees?

You can ask but don't expect to get anything.  in a nutshell, the contract was for your address in a Virgin supplied area.  Not their fault if you decide to move to an area they can't supply.  Read your T&Cs. This has come up multiple times on the forum.

What are 'basic' channels? If you want subscription channels, then your main option is Sky. If you only want free to view channels, then all you need is an aerial and Freeview, or a sat dish/box and Freesat. Both entirely free to use.  Record with a Humax PVR or Foxsat PVR.
For broadband, you are limited to ADSL or fibre services via a BT-based landline: neither will give you cable speeds, unless you are in a FTTP equipped area, which is unlikely.
If you are still in minimum term with VM,  you will have to pay the early termination charge, it's not negotiable-why would it be, since you are breaking your contract?
