Sheilas Wheels cancellation charges

I have been with Sheilas Wheels for a number of years. I have lost my job due to Covid-19 and have had to sell my car. I was two months into my new year's policy (paying by direct debit) when I cancelled. I have been told I must pay £98 cancellation charge - when I queried they said it was because I took out insurance "added extras" I assume these to be Motor legal protection, Personal injury cover, Car hire etc  ..... If I have cancelled these future risks why do I have to pay a cancellation fee - they are now threatening me.

Once you have passed the 14 days cooling off period you have no statutory right to cancel the insurance at all.  Whilst all motor insurers do allow cancellation of the main policy, in exchange for a fee, some of the add ons are technically separate policies, potentially with different underwriters and some of these are only cancelable in exchange for the outstanding premiums.

Have you checked your policybook etc for the cancellation terms? Unfortunately these are really things to be checked before buying!

Most of your fee will be the finance charges.  Policies are a lot cheaper if paid annually.

The add-ons are one off payments that cannot be cancelled past 14 days as stated.
