O/S Daily Friday 23 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Still dark, dry underfoot.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg.. Tonight will be chicken and ham kievs and chips for the menfolk. I'll have either fishcakes or omelet and salad - probably the latter as I have lots of eggs some of which need using up.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted and this morning will head to the SM first thing to do the food shop. Once that's done, I'll be waiting for the engineer to arrive to hopefully sort out our telephone landline - engineer was booked for last week and failed to arrive as the booking had been done properly their end - hoping they get it sorted today as I've been without the landline telephone for 2 weeks - they can't seem to find out what's wrong, we'll see. Will just be pottering about until engineer arrives.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
I've been up for what seems like hours, doing nothing in particular. I was so tired last night I went to bed early so that's probably why I was awake at silly o'clock, together with the rain battering against the windows.
I took a friend shopping after work, bought a couple of things myself including some much needed new work clothes although I will have to slightly alter the trousers, they are always made for someone with thighs and a bottom, both of which I am lacking!
Hope you're recovering Rosy.
How's your DM Gers?
Friday again, this week seems to have passed really quickly, I'm going to do the housework when I get home so I can have a chilled weekend. Take care. XX13 -
Don't all fall off your chairs at seeing a post from me at this time, I've been awake since 5.30 so decided to get up and do something. I'm listening to the rain falling on the velux windows in the living room and it sounds horrible out there, it's so dark and depressing I hate the nights drawing in and it will be worse after the weekend.
We've still got Laura and family here, so I spent yesterday baby minding while Laura did her online college course. They're staying till Wednesday now so that's great. The house is a bombsite but that's ok, plenty of time to make it tidy when they've gone, not to mention all the baby clutter will go as well.
MSE moments, I went to the local farm shop for eggs and came away with a tray of pullet eggs (about 30 eggs) for £1. They're small but not that small and free range of course, very bargainous.
Apart from that life plods on, thank you to those who mentioned Steve's eye. It's not painful, just inconvenient because he finds it difficult to see out of his left eye, it's like macular degeneration because the membrane distorts the macular, but fortunately is curable, whereas degeneration is only treatable.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another dark start here but still dry. I don't know how we are escaping the rain. We'll pay for it eventually!
It was lovely having the girlies here for tea yesterday but I just hope I am not pushing my luck. I won't see them now for a little while as they are off to the 'van for half term. I hope the heater is working ok as I think they will need it. Still no news on the static we were hoping to get for the start of next season. The owners are still awaiting news of the new one they have on order. It seems production is behind schedule ' cos of Covid.
I was behind schedule job wise yesterday as my DF phoned me from Oz just after breakfast and we were chatting away for 2 hours!! By then it was nearly lunchtime! So more Friday Tidy to do today than anticipated. I also want to make more soup this afternoon for the freezer as stocks are diminishing. I am now quite partial to the WW Cauliflower Cheese recipe that DD passed on. And of course my ever faithful Lentil and Bacon! The stock pots will be busy! So that will be my MSE contribution for today!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. BELLA I have fingers crossed for your test result. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Good morning folks. After my trip to the book CS and the visit of the district nurse the rest of my day was very quiet. I finished off one book and sort of started on another. The audiobook is being kept for bedtimes and outdoors.Today is a blank page. I'll go with the flow whether it's fast or slow.Happy Friday to all.13

Morning all
Its been raining overnight but clearing up now and the sun seems to be coming out it seems we are in for a nice day today. DD and I are off into town this morning I have my bra appointment at 12 so we will do a bit of xmas shopping before hand and maybe some after, I need to get wrapping paper today so that I can start the dreaded wrapping. I ordered a few more presents online yesterday so nearly there.
Will empty the dw this morning and have a quick clean through before we go, I have a wash on the go but that will have to go on the airer later when we light the fire.
Dinner tonight is going to be a takeaway we have not had one for a while and I really fancy one, dd is out for an early meal so it will just be the two of us.
Have good days all xx

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
It has rained quite a bit overnight but stopped now, perhaps the sun will come out for a while.
Got a bit done in the garden yesterday, then chipped more rotten wood for the compost bin, collected dratted sycamore seeds, really should do some housework before we descend into a morass of squalor. Will have to sweep up at least as I went out to feed the birds but did not stay on the swept path, thus bringing in another load of wet leaves on my garden clogs.
I have no interesting plans, might have a walk and look at the trees changing, only it will be drippy and slippy.
More soup of chicken carcase for lunch.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back11 -
Morning all Dry here with a sprinkling of sunshine but i don't think its set to last . I haven't heard from my swab yet but it has only been 24hrs I am more convinced than ever its a cold as i now have a runny nose and blocked ears and sore throat but better to be safe than sorry I think all the pressure of the last few months has dragged me down and standing in the pouring rain made my body decide it had had enough
Ruby good luck with the bra lady i am glad you feel at ease with her
Snoozer glad steves eye isn't painful hopefully he can get seen and sorted as soon as sounds like you have been having a busy time with a houseful
TA sounds like a good day yesterday hopefully the new static will be here sooner rather than later
Gers enjoy your day you could always mix it up a bit and do a foxtrot (I think) slow slow quick quick slow x
Right better get on beds today and friday clean have a good day whatever you are all up too xxSlava Ukraini12 -
Morning everybody, hope all is well.Snoozer, enjoy having the family, and glad Steve's eye can be fixed. Thanks Camelot I'm fine today & DGS enjoyed comparing his (numerous
) grazes and feeling he'd won lol.
Nmlc, hope the engineer turns up this time. I always feel like I can't start anything properly until they've been and gone!TA, covid seems to hold a lot of things up doesn't it? DGDs other Nana is thinking about buying a static on the same site as her in laws .They have just got one a couple of hours away so we had a browse at those.Sm delivery turned up ok, and I ended up making a big beef in ale stew, & lots of veg in my instant pot, 20 mins and the beef skirt was meltingly tender. Plenty left so I've froz en it in individual portions. Its one of DS favourites so I thought I'd build a little stock for him to put in his freezer when he moves out next month. Mind you it could all get used before thenGers how are you enjoying listening to the audio books ? I've only tried it once but the narrators voice got on my nervesHalf term is starting here today. I got 2 pumpkins for the DGC to carve, and a few spooky sweets to have a little hunt seeing as trick or treat is banned. Anyway time for another brew and a browse of my online paper. The bm is on as the ever hungry menfolk seem to have eaten the loaf and pack of barms that came yesterday- have a good day x

Morning all! It's not looking great out there today, very dull and grey and threatening downpours. On the plus side, 44kg [ yes,44!] of clothes and shoes and bags are now gone from the house. I was super shocked at the amount everything weighed and now that I only have things that fit or things i won't part with, everything is a lot emptier. And OH contributed quite a lot to the pile too. Just wait till I start on the books....So the boot is full for the tip [ sorry Nels!] and we did try to get the two seater sofa in there but it was too big so we had to bash that apart. I can't even remember how I managed to get it home from outside the shop [it was dumped]. It's kind of typical of me. I see something I think will be useful and get it , then shuffle it around various places in the house until it sits gathering dust, or in this case, provides a handy bed for the cats to sleep on. We never sat on it, it wasn't very comfortable. It was going to be one of my upcycle projects that I never got round to. On the plus side, the house is looking less like like a jumble sale in action. So today, trip to the dump, possibly sm shopping, Oh has asked for coronation chicken jackets, but we don't have any potatoes, hence the shopping. I'd better get a pound coin from somewhere, there's no way I can carry a basket today. And I always end up putting way more in it than it's supposed to hold.Rosy, what is this twenty minute instant pot wonder you speak of? Bella, hope you get to relax a bit soon. Ruby, hope the bra appointment goes well. snoozer, the pullet eggs sound good, I've run out and i do like a boiled egg, or a scrambled egg, or a quiche, or a ....you get the picture
nanny, how did your pie cooking go? I bet they smelled fab! Hey all reading along, staying sane? Righty ho, off to Thursday i go...

Morning all, looks like we have had rain overnight.Yesterday was glorious warm sunshine so we put our van cushions on the patio to air before they are put away ( they've only made it as far as the spare bedroom so far ). We also called in DD's to drop off the presents and her parcels on her doorstep. As we arrived home another parcel arrived and just when I thought I'd emptied the warehouse !After my marathon baking session I'm all done with pies and pasties but I am ashamed to say that one pasty didn't get as far as the plate, I ate it warm from the oven.......... but I did share, honestAnother baking day lies ahead, a cake for tomorrow, a shared birthday and anniversary one. While it's cooling ready for decoration I shall look for a hamper basket so that I'm ready to fill it when I've wrapped Dad's pies. I am the hoarder holder of many different sized baskets (so MSE) as DD and I have swapped for years usually at Xmas and she doesn't have the room to keep hers at home. I need to do some tidying downstairs today too, my dining table looks like a bakers windowTea tonight will be the last of the corned beef mix, in rissoles today, think I could give lessons in how to make a tin of corned beef last a month or two ?Take care all, stay safe and keep well.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently11
