O/S Daily Thursday 21 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark, damp underfoot after yesterday's all day rain - hoping today may not be the same.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 is getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was roasted chicken portions with tray baked veg - not a great hit. Tonight I'm not sure what we'll be having.
Now on days' off - I have an appointment early this afternoon - other than that the day is my own - so I'm thinking I'll get stuck in to the housework first thing, then go to the free range egg farm and the butchers - which are both in the same area. I only have £20 ish left to pay for my xmas meat hamper, so I want to get that done.
There is some washing to be done and I'll be stripping our bed linen. I also need to spend some time menu planning and making a shopping list for tomorrow's food shop.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a damp start here, yesterday was showery. I got absolutely soaked walking home from the shops. We had the boiler serviced and it will live to boil for a bit longer the man said. He serviced the living flame gas fire as well, that's pretty old but doesn't get loads of use, mainly on chilly summer evenings when you don't want to heat the whole house. We are thinking of replacing kitchen worktops and appliances, so I'm going to contact someone to come and have a look at it.The cupboards themselves are still in good nick though they were put in over 20 years ago - it's dated, but we're not bothered about that, we still like it. Anyway we'll see how much it will cost, hope it's not too eye watering.Good to hear from you Mehefin, I meant to say yesterday.Nowt much happening today, I've got an appointment for a hearing test - I've had two hearing aids for the past 4 years and this is a routine test they tell me. It's at Spe*savers on our main shopping street so I can walk there. That's it for today, hope everyone has a good day, take care folks13

Morning folks.Good news about your boiler Scarlet. This morning I have an appointment to drop off bags of books at the big Oxfam shop, five bags from DM's friend and three from DM. Then it's straight back here as a district nurse is coming to give DM her 'flu vaccination sometime. Yesterday I phoned the surgery to ask about the pneumonia vaccination for me but was told that it's in very short supply, they haven't got any stock and would put me on the waiting list. ☹️My breakfast date yesterday was lovely, it refreshes me and keeps me treading water for another wee while. Now I have to get ready. I wish everyone a happy Thursday.12

Morning All
Dark and miserable this morning but not raining at the moment. Washing on the pulley and I'm showered and ready for work.
I had to collect something from Asda yesterday from work, when I got there they said it was out of stock, would have been nice if they had let me know. Anyway I had a nosey about their clothes and bought some new work trousers so not a wasted trip.
I'm taking a friend shopping after work - her car has gone to the great scrapheap in the sky and she needs some heavy stuff, hope she doesn't take too long this time!!
Hope you all have a good day, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Still very dark outside but dry and no rain forecast. Yesterday's showers turned out to be just one quick shower mid afternoon. I'm sure the heavy rain will catch up with us before too long.
Yesterday I decided it was Battle of the Bedding Day. TA versus SK. I managed to win but it gets harder each time getting the fresh duvet cover on. I really should get a smaller bed I am lost in that one.
I enjoyed my little trip to Ald with DD. In the good old pre-virus days I never thought of grocery shopping as a pleasure but I do miss it!. I topped up on my fresh stuff to keep me going till next delivery and a few other bits seemed to leap in my trolley as well! We then went over to Sainsbobs so I could put all the surplus cat food in the Cats Protection box. A few more bits purchased including a jumper I didn't really need as its a 25% off clothing event again! Does that count as MSE?!
Today I have DD and the girlies here for tea. The 2 eldest are coming straight from school but youngest has a hospital appointment so her and DD will arrive a bit later. One guess what's for tea!! I do wish they would tire of eating it as I certainly get fed up of making it!! Once that's made and oven ready I will make a head start on the Friday Tidy and do the kitchen and bathroom. Well that's the plan anyway!
Have a good day folks and((HUGS)) for all in need. ROSY I hope there are no ill effects from your tumble. Sometimes it's your pride that hurts most isn't it Take care all and stay safe xx

Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
Not raining for a nice change, I can do outdoor things today, though the ground is soaked from yesterday's relentless rain.
I have done my money saving thing for today, made stock from chicken carcases.
Mr Mo**ison brought food and groceries last night, I don't think anything was left out but loo roll was rationed. Our local shop does seem to have lots but more expensive than big supermarkets - we have a supermarket delivery every 3 weeks and then top up locally. The delivery is on a Wednesday evening as that is the cheapest time.
Time for a shower and breakfast, hope you all have a decent day and Rosy hope you are not too sore today.

I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all.
I'm dashing off any moment now to start the tortuous journey involving buses that never seem to connect with each other.......all to have my hair cut. I could find somewhere closer I know, but this is a friend who understands my thin fine hair, and is cheaper than the hairdressers in town. (Please take note mse police)
Yesterday I made a bowl of my coleslaw mix - grated courgette and carrot, finely sliced white cabbage, red cabbage, leeks and peppers. Some of it I mixed with mayonnaise for lunch yesterday, some will be used in a stir fry today and some will be boiled up and turned into soup tomorrow. A few 'past their best' veggies used up and the basis of 3 meals there. How mse is that? Polishes halo.
TA. I bit the bullet years ago and converted to a single bed. I've never regretted it. More room in the bedroom and more cosiness in bed. Not to mention less hassle changing duvet covers.
Hoping everyone has something lovely, something funny and something productive going on today.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Look at you! Being kind of awake and stuff. You are reading wrods and probably aren't even stabbing ANYONE right now.
You deserve a coffee, you magnificent little sunbeam.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning all its sunny here yesterday didn't go as well as planned mums hairdresser was 30 minutes late so i was waiting outside in the rain last time before i could park the car and walk to the hairdressers she had finished so i was soaking wet and cold but we managed to get all her other shopping so all good in the end I came home and had a hot bath and a nana nap . I have to go today for a covid test I am not sure what's going on but i have lost my sense of taste everything tastes as if it has had all the taste washed out of it with water very odd but i would rather be safe than sorry and get the test i have no other symptoms . Morning all
Not raining here at the moment but more due later, I have an appoingtment with my lovely nail lady today to remove the gel polish, its reallly hard to take it off yourself and takes her minutes she is just going to paint a nail hardener on for me to hopefully keep them long until after my op, I have very brittle nails which snap really easily and going to her has really helped them grow, but as I have to isolate from the 6th Nov I thought I may as well get them done now.
I had a terrible night last night I was still awake at 3 this morning so may have a nana nap later on, I want to order a few more xmas presents later and Im hoping with the shopping outing tomorrow it will be mainly done, I just have to wrap it them which is my most hated job ever !!
Dinner tonight will be a chicken chorizio and veg bake will get it ready to shove in the oven later on.
Rosy hope you are ok after your tumble xx
Mehefin nice to 'see you' xx
Take care everyone xx11 -
Morning all! Not raining at the moment, but the floor is wet. Not our cat woke me up kneading my shoulders, maybe I should pay him money or mice to do my neck properly. Of course, cats with opposable thumbs means world domination so maybe not. TA, with you on the supermarket shopping, they're the only shop [besides stationery shops] that I like shopping in.Today, using OH as muscle we're taking bags to various places, the charity shop and the buying clothes place. That will get rid of six big bags, and if the charity shop takes rag, they can have another three bags. I was brutal and got rid of stuff that I would like to wear, but doesn't fit or I don't really like, or is falling apart. It really opened my eyes to how much stuff we do have. I haven't been through the linen stuff yet either, it all needs washing because it smells musty and we no longer have a double bed so keeping one duvet cover is enough in case.I'd better think of something to cook for tonight as well, I might take the chicken out in a minute. We have peppers and onions , maybe a jambalaya or something. Or I have some mole sauce left in the fridge. I do have to either go shopping or internet order and while ordering on the internet is really easy, you don't see the offers or the YS stuff then. this time though,I'll make a list. Honest!Hope youre not too stiff today Rosy! It'salways a whole body shock when you fall, and I find myself beinga bit over cautious for a few weeks in case I do it again..Nice to see you mehefin, good news about the cataract being done, all horses getting on but not so good news about the toxic troll. Monna, your thought is a perfect one for most days for me...and I laughed out loud. Bonus! TA, you may be sick of making it but they are going to remember you making that forever, they will always remember you with happiness
bella, hope you don't get worse! Scarlet, hooray for working boilers! Gers, chin up...I think I'd be tearing my hair out by now. Ruby, check you can have nail varnish on for your op, I wasn't allowed to. And don't stress over getting things organised, sometimes, it;s just not going to happen so don't go putting added pressure on yourself... Nelski, clutter queens no longer! Hopefully! Hey all reading along, hope you're alive and perky, tossing everything out Thursday!
