Most amount I can spend on a credit card

in Credit cards
Hi all. I am wondering if someone can give me some advice. My fiancee is looking to purchase a new car. I mentioned to her about purchasing on a 0% card and transferring to another 0% card in the future for final payments. The car amount would be around £15,000. Would this be a possible plan to do this? I have done this myself many years ago but only on much smaller amounts so have limited knowledge with credit cards and payments.
Thanks

You can spend up to your credit limit. That could be anything from a couple of hundred pounds to tens of thousands.
If she's new to credit cards, it will be at the lower end.0 -
I'm not sure that many car dealers would accept a credit card payment for the full balance due to the transaction charges.Whe we recently bought one ours said that the maximum that could be paid on debit or credit card was £500 - they required a bank transfer for the rest of the deposit, although they did give us a 0% finance deal for around a third of the price to spread the payments over three years.0

As P00h says, the dealers are unlikely to allow you. The most I've ever been able to do is a £2K deposit and I was surprised they let me do that.0

Don’t know whom you have been buying your car from but recently I’ve purchased one for quite a large amount and paid for it with my credit card. The previous car purchase I did the same thing, this was simply to make use of the cards reward benefits.p00hsticks said:I'm not sure that many car dealers would accept a credit card payment for the full balance due to the transaction charges.Whe we recently bought one ours said that the maximum that could be paid on debit or credit card was £500 - they required a bank transfer for the rest of the deposit, although they did give us a 0% finance deal for around a third of the price to spread the payments over three years.I guess if your using a small dealer then they may only allow a small amount to be paid with credit card as they would have to pay quite a lot in merchants fees so may not be worth it for them.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. There will always be exceptions but I've heard of far more cases where dealers had a limit on credit cards than not.dr_adidas01 said:

My local Ford dealer would only take £500 on a credit card. They said that their margins are low and the credit card company would take virtually all of it!
If you find a dealer that will take a card for the full amount then I would suggest that you are paying over the odds for the car.1 -

If you find a dealer that will take a card for the full amount then I would suggest that you are paying over the odds for the car.I can imagine that margins are tight on a Ford for obvious reasons.Having a dealer that takes the full amount by credit card doesn’t suggest someone is paying over the odds at all. It’s called good business and giving the customer what they want.Sounds like you might be a bit envious of those that can pay the full amount by credit card (just a thought).Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. You can do this on a money transfer credit card. I did this last year with a 0% interest, no fee card for 15k with no problems. However the amount you can transfer will be slightly lower than the card limit and there are very few good deals around at the moment.0
