for a connection between router and box you want to goorange/ whiteorangegreen/whiteblueblue/whitegreenbrown/whitebrownuntwist all the pairs place into the above order then cut to roughly a thumbnails lenght slide into the rj45 connector and crimp then repeat in the same order on the other enda tester is also a good idea as it will show you if done correct. and also if you have any shorts or cable crossed over once you have done a few you will soon get the hang of it1

Just looked at the prices as some of mine need replacing, they are so cheap is it worth making them?
CPC catalogue dropped through the door today, not checked elsewhere yet.

Sometimes its handy if you need to feed a cable through a hole without the ends on, as you can just crimp them on afterwards. Or if you need a bespoke length that pre-made is too short on one length and far too long on the next, although its always better to be too long than too short. For most uses though, its probably far quicker just to buy a pre-made one to the length you need.1

Cable I have has 4 cables (2 wires twisted together for each so 8 total) - green & white, blue & white, brown & white and orange & white.
Do I untwist the cables or crimp as they are?
When the cables go into the end connector do they have to go in a certain order and if so does the other end have to match that order?
Cheers
just wire according to CAT5 A or CAT5 B ( doesn't matter which but both ends must be the same)
A cheap cable tester is a must in my view
In the real world we have not needed a crossover for 10 years or more
Don't untwist wires by more than half an inch
There are different connectors for stranded and solid Cat5 cable
Much easier for a beginner is to use faceplates and Krone tool and patch lead as the crimps are tricky till you get the hang
Make sure all wires go to end of RJ45 plug if you do go down the RJ45 route

Yes you need to untwist them a bit and then make sure they go all the way into the connector before crimping.0
