TSB classic account question

Can someone jog my memory please,
TSB classic account, the £500 a month you pay into the account, is that to gain interest or to avoid a monthly fee? I just can’t remember.
For the time being I wish to keep my two accounts open when the interest rate drops to nil, so if the £500 is to get interest obviously I can stop funding the accounts and just leave them open with a fiver in each.
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.
