Is the Cheap Energy Club not currently working?

I've tried several days in a row to use the Cheap Energy Club, but when I search for top deal, I keep getting an "Oops! We've had an accident..." message saying the site is down. Given this has happened several days in a row, I wanted to check whether it is just me experiencing this? I've tried accessing in Safari and also Mozilla.

Unlikely to get any decent deals through CEC, use a site that has a greater range of suppliers. They are also showing tariffs that are no longer available,  a waste of time.
For me cheapest CEC electric is £538, cheapest Citizens Advice is £484
Gas is OK but there are fewer suppliers out there anyway
Cheapest CEC dual fuel is £1102 on a tariff that is not now available - next is £1107, cheapest CA is £1062

The CEC has been broken for ages.  It doesn't show all suppliers, contrary to all its holier-than-thou claims: Neon Reef has always been missing, and Avro comes and goes.  I can't register my gas tariff nor my electricity tariff, so it won't even alert me when something cheaper comes along.  It shows tariffs from London Power despite that company not serving my postcode.
It's also making it difficult to find the cheapest deal because of all the hurdles that have been introduced: at every stage you are waylaid with options that are likely to steer you towards the more expensive suppliers that pay commission.
It does mention that separate suppliers can be cheaper, but a really good comparison site would do this automatically and present the dual and separate fuels results in a single list.  Ditto, working out whether E7 or single rate is better.  Surprisingly, no-one seems to offer this, you have to do several more searches and number crunch the results yourself
Far better to start comparing with Citizens Advice and' Switch with Which?'.  You can always return to the CEC and the commercial sites to see whether cashback is available, but if you've found the cheapest deal(s) it almost certainly won't be.
  • Thanks all. I will try Citizens Advice and Switch with Which and see how I get on!
