Council property universal credit with over 6000£

Hi there. I'm a single mother working part time. I have just been offered a council property and will be applying for universal credit for housing benefit. I have £10,000 I recently inherited. I know that any savings over £6000, you will need to use as part of your living expenses so I would get less of universal credit.
I currently own an old unreliable ford and want to buy a more reliable car.
I am unsure whether I can spend money on a car or whether this is not allowed
Thanks a lot

Buying a newer car will not been seen as deprivation of capital. Use a benefits calculator to see what you maybe entitled to for UC.https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/Intro/Home?cid=84815369-8514-4a4f-b1d0-5bdd80c9b8c9

Buying a reasonably priced reliable car won't be a problem but obviously keep any receipts. In addition buying essential household furniture, appliances, bedding etc would also be reasonable if you have to furnish your house. Again, keep receipts.
