O/S Daily Wednesday 21 October 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning! The sleepy stick did not smack me today and I have no clue why...Anyway, it's dark, it's raining, it's proper yuk outside but in here it is surprisingly warm. Last nights supper was a throw together of what was in the fridge, bendy veg, chorizo and a piece of skirt from the freezer with some paprika and spices and there's enough of that for tonight so at least no cooking today. I've booked the next tip run [Friday] and am planning on sorting clothes to sell today at some point. You don't get much per kilo but I find it easier to throw it all in a black bag and take it straight there than to sort it all out and take it to a charity shop that is probably groaning under the strain of during- and post-lockdown donations. I do have two bags to go there, both sort of luggage type bags, and various other carrier bags of things for friends which I have already checked that they want. Damn but this decluttering is infectious. I actually spontaneously decluttered the top of the tumble drier last night when I walked past it. And i have finally removed the bunch of rosemary I had hanging above the fire drying to make a herb mix. It had only been there for about eight months and had [ the shame!] cobwebs in it!Gave the grass a mow yesterday too so hopefully I won't have to do that again this year. It had to be done because they collect the green bins on Thursday and with the forecast being rain,I thought I'd get it out of the way. I'll do some pruning of out of control plants in the front garden after to fill it up a bit. So that's my day to be...snoozer, that's just poo, hope they can sort him out soon. Ruby, hope your daugheters house goes as soon as possible too, one major thing finished with so neither of you have to deal with the ex ever again and you can concentrate on you. dumping, glad you had anice visit, sometimes doing stuff I'm afraid of assumes massive proportions in my mind until i actually do them. nanny, I hve noticed the same thing about men in general, they gossip worse than fishwives of fishwife gossipping is still a thing. Bella, enjoy the day out!? and hope your reno's go without a hitch!...Hay all reading along, hope you're all bearing up...Weather is poo Wednesday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Dark, damp and rain forecast for most of the day.
DH getting read for work, as is DS1. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, sausage, fried mash potato, beans and mushrooms. Tonight will be chicken not decided if with mash and veg or rice/pasta yet.
Yesterday work was steady - last day of my working week today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Not very nice out this morning and so dark, hoping it'll be lighter next week for the drive to work, it takes me a while to get used to driving in the dark again after the summer.
I sorted out a drawer of gloves, scarves and hats yesterday. I very rarely wear a wooly hat so why I had 7 I've no idea! Anyway, there's a bag ready for the CS that I'll take on my way home from work. I've got the bug now so will do some more decluttering tonight.
Great to hear the house sale is going well RR, it will be good for you all to draw a line under the whole unpleasant business.
Keep up with the exercises Gers, you'll get there.
Right, off to the shower and another day at the funny farm. Take care. XX12 -
Morning folks and thanks TAFF for the kick off. You are a lot of early risers this morning! As usual I was awake I just couldn't drag myself out of bed! No rain here but it is forecast imminently, then a day of sunshine and showers to follow.
Excitement of the day is a trip to Aldi!! DD taking me down after her weekly weigh in at WW. It's onwards and downwards for her just now, albeit too slowly for her liking! I don't need a great deal of shopping, just some fresh stuff to keep me going until my Tesco delivery next week.
I de-cluttered Sparkle's food cupboard yesterday! All the tried and scorned food sachets have been parcelled up and will go in the cat charity collection trolley. She finally settled on Hi Life Perfection which, of course, is more expensive than the others but she thinks she is worth it!! (I think she is too!)
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. DUMPLING well done on your trip out. REDRUBY it's fingers crossed that the sale of DD's house goes through smoothly and quickly. Take care one and all and stay safe x ps NAN you'll need a Get Out of Gaol Free card before you can venture out to our bench sorry!! x

Morning all.My trip across to Ibrox was interesting as lots and lots of roads were closed for work and, when I eventually found my way to it, there is a one way system round the ground and I couldn't find the way in. 😂 There is a tiny sign which I only spotted after three circuits of the surrounding streets.Yesterday I signed up for the audible free trial and downloaded one book. I'll give it a go, perhaps I can listen whilst walking.Today I have breakfast with my friend to cheer up my miserable face. There's the prospect of tighter restrictions looming ahead which may mean more closures. I really hope not as this weekly chat is what's keeping my head above water. After breakfast I'm collecting bags of unwanted books from DM's friend as I have a slot at the CS tomorrow morning. I'll add in some bags from DM which have been lingering around for far too long. There's such lovely snippets of good news here, it's a delight to read.Happy Wednesday to all.12

Good morning, dark and damp again here, though yesterday turned into a lovely day. Thanks Taff for starting - the sleepy stick missed me out as well. I was still awake at 4am, so i predict a day of yawning ahead. We went for a longish walk yesterday afternoon, what a beautiful day it was.The man is coming to service the boiler today - last year he said if it needed repairs we would need a new one, as it's now 11 years old. Our last boiler was 24 years old when it went, and still working. It's just that it was big and bulky and a bit noisy, and spares would have been impossible to get. 11 years doesn't seem long to me but there you go.We can only hope it'll keep going for another year or two, it has had some problems. That's the only excitement on the agenda for today.I'm still tidying and rearrangingcupboards and drawers, Taff and Camelot seem to have the bug as well,RR hope all goes well for your DD and the house sale.Gers hope you're all right.Hope everyone has a good Wednesday, take care folks.13

Morning
Ive also had the decluttering bug for quite some time now and can nearly walk through the garage at lastIt is addictive and very satisfying for me on a Friday when the bins are emptied
Shame the charity bag collections have stopped in my area as I have plenty of those too.
Forecast pretty grim today but as there are no plans for outdoor activities then let it rain. Today I will be mostly decluttering in the dining room again which will hopefully finish that off for now. Yesterdays chilli was good so that will be another rinse and repeat tonight. It seemed to grow in the slow cooker so there will be a few portions for the freezer too. The master plan was to declutter the freezer ready for a defrost and restock but it seems to be going back up again so I need to stop cooking again for a while.
scarlett hope the service goes OK I have an 8 year old boiler and when it was serviced last week the guy said it was now considered old and parts would be hard to get! Seems a conspiracy by the manufactures now as like you my last boiler was 25 years old before parts ran out
Right best get on have a good day all x13 -
Morning all.
I'm appalled at the hour you are all up and about. I dimly remember the days when I was up before 6, got breakfast for the family and hangers-on, got everyone off to school/work, got myself off to school and thankfully put the coffee machine on in the staff room for the first relaxing coffee of the day. That lasted until the first child arrived.
Retirement has a lot to offer, including making a mug of coffee and going back to bed with a book.
ScarletRibbons, I agree that 11 years seems nothing for a boiler. I also had an enormous one built like a tank that was installed in the late sixties and still going strong when I sold the house in 1994.
I had a new one installed here a year ago when I moved in. With a bit of luck it will see me out.
I also have the decluttering bug, but getting rid of stuff is another matter. Most of it is far too good to chuck, but CS is still a no-no here and since Ive given up driving it means towing stuff in bags on and off buses. I have been ruthless with books, but getting rid of them is difficult. They are heavy!
It's wet and gloomy here today. Thankfully I got all my washing dry yesterday when the weather was glorious.
Whatever you are doing today, I hope you enjoy at least some of it.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Who can relate?
Checking the time, but then end up checking it again because you weren't paying attention the first time.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning all
Pouring with rain here and set in for the day I think, it will be a quick dash around the field with the pups today !! DD has gone to a meeting this morning and then into work to do a workshop this aftrnoon so another day on my own.
Dinner tonight will be the left over gammon egg and chips it was very tasty, I do like morrisons meat. I have a wash on the go and another to go in after but it will have to go in the TD today, the kitchen floor needs a sweep and a mop as well. Morrisons delivery tonight as well.
Thank you for all the wishes re dd's house, fingers crossed it goes without a hitch.
Snoozer I meant to say I am sorry about DH eye, hopefully the wait wont be too long x
Ok better get my marmite on toast, have good days all and stay safe xx
