Do repeated mortgage applications affect credit score?

We are currently looking to sell our house and buy a larger place, we received a mortgage in principal from our current mortgage provider (Halifax) but this expires this week and needs to be renewed. We spoke to the main Halifax mortgage department and the person was struggling to help us and said this was being declined even though we are in a better financial position than with the original mortgage promise. We have since spoken to the mortgage advisor at our local branch who says he does not know what he was on about and there is no issue at all. However while we were on the phone we received a number of e mails while the first advisor was trying to change things, four e mails saying they were refusing our mortgage request and two mortgage in principals at a level lower than we require, all of this in the space of nine minutes. Will this show up on any future credit score checks on us and if so is it a simple task to get this removed? Thank you in advance

The scores are only seen by yourself, your history is what lenders, banks etc can see.0

Any hard searches will appear on your files. You can't get them removed unless they were carried out in error.0

Speak to a mortgage broker and ascertain what's actually possible.0

The credit score is meaningless but yes, every hard search will appear on your credit report and will stay there for 12 months. Unless, as zx81 says, they were put on there in error.
Lots of applications for credit are detrimental to your report and put lenders off.
I agree with Thrugelmir, speak to a mortgage broker before making any more applications. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. But why let facts get in the way of a good MalMonroe disinformation session, right?0
