Replacing old storage heaters with new wifi enabled electric heaters - 3bd semi £6500

Options
We've received a quote from a company who will recycle all of the storage heaters in our house and replace with electric heaters (wifi enabled so you can control each room from an app). removing 7 existing heaters, and replacing them with 6 new radiators plus 1 towel rail (5 year warranty), 1 mornings work. Quoted £6500.
I'd expected it to be half that. Am I on the wrong planet?

  • I should have said - we're located in Scotland, not far from Glasgow.
  • If anyone stumbles upon my post - I've done some googling, and I've found that I can buy the equivalent appliances for around £1400, if I buy them directly, which gives me around £5000 to find an electrician to fit them - so wont be going with the quote.

Are you using off peak? Sounds like the new ones will be on peak?  If you're lucky your bills could only double, but perhaps more.

Far more detail required about the type of heater you have been quoted for.  I suspect a rip off 'filled with magic fairy dust' system.

You can buy an electric heater for £20 and fit a wi fi controller to the plug for another £20, but it will still cost far more to run than a storage heater.

You’re not on the wrong planet. But I think the company that quoted may of thought they were onto a winner

As above, if you remove NSH's running on E7 and replace with convectors, oil filled rads or F*****r heaters filled with magic custard, then you will triple your heating costs overnight. Don't do it.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Can i ask where you sourced the heaters please?
