Redundancy

I was made redundant after 5 years on Wednesday had to return form by Friday, I went back in signed, my boss told me there were jobs available as sub contractor in building told me speak to there boss, he said yes I could have job and took details, said start following Monday, over the weekend my new boss said he'd had phone call from previous boss and said as I was made redundant he didn't want me to work in building, yet it was his idea to go for sub contractor job, my new boss said he's sorry he didn't see problem but didn't want to upset anyone so he couldn't take me on, any advice please
