Out of my depth, advise needed please.

Hi,  I'm hoping to apply for the New Green Home Grant, but have never done this before or dealt with the building trade for fear of being ripped off (female & guileless)
I have to get three quotes via Trust Mark and wonder in my initial contact should I mention I am hoping to get a grant, or just keep the email simple and say I need them to come and quote for some windows?
Thanks

Do you have single glazed windows currently?

You will need to tell the suppliers that you will be looking to do it under the grant scheme.

It isn't just Trustmark that traders need, that's the easy bit.  They also need PAS accreditation which is expensive and admin heavy.   The government didn't tell anyone what they needed to qualify until the scheme had apparently already started so very few are registered appropriately.    The cost and timescale involved is prohibitive, so many just aren't bothering.

If you can find someone offering it with availability- good luck to you!

So I will ask the 3 companies if they have the necessary PAS accreditation as well.  It sounds like a needle in a haystack :/
  • A little off topic, I am in Scotland in an old building with single glazing, however I’ve ordered double glazing. Is there any opportunity for a grant? In saying that I’ve had issue there with the windows (will start a separate thread for that)

    Hi,
I think the Green Homes Grant is only available in England, have a look here for Scotland.

Thanks, will check it out. It seems a lot of info to navigate and I suspect the fact I’ve already purchased double glazing windows, albeit not fitted, will go against me. I should have looked into this first as I have a feeling I and my property would have qualified

From my reading of the grant, you cannot have just windows, you have to have done something else (insulation for example) first and even then it is only a proportion of what you applied for and it is in vouchers not cash.

I was hoping under the scheme to get some loft insulation, so have asked the companies that cover various home renovation areas if they can quote for that as well. So far I haven't had any responses back, so maybe I will try and send out offers to quotes to a few more companies.
