Redundancy consultation this week

Hi All,
Hopefully someone will be able to help me with a redundancy question?
After almost 7 years with my current employer, I am about to be made redundant (expected leave date is end of March next year). I completely understand why they have to make me redundant, there is no possibility of alternative employment within the group and I am the only one directly affected by the decision made, so none of this is in question - In fact, I am looking forward to leaving them (it hasn't been a great couple of years).
I have been invited to a consultation meeting with the FD and someone from HR on Thursday this week. They have re-iterated that I can have a representative in the meeting with me, but I am not too sure why I would want someone with me. I will make notes when we have the call (I have made notes previously and have typed them up straight afterwards so the comments are still fresh in my mind).
I have looked online and all I can see is that you tend to have a rep if you disagree with the decision....I don't and I think that I have been treated fairly.
Any insights would be appreciated.
Thanks
Candy

The company is merely ensuring that the correct protocol is followed and that you are treated fairly that's all. If matters are as you describe then seems little more than a formality.1
