Lighting keeps blowing LED bulbs.

  • I've bought cheap and mid-price ones and the failure rate hasn't been impressive. I've had some cheap ones and some mid-prices ones last >5y each. But the cheap ones don't last as long, on the whole.

What really kills LEDs is heat. Ok they don't heat up much but when fitted in enclosures that don't allow the heat to dissipate, they just die. I've had ones in service for over 7 years now that are fine while others weren't lasting more than a couple of years until I changed the fittings.

I also have several fittings with this G9 LED! I have bought cheap and expensive and yes your are right they also do blow within short periods. They all state they should work for so many years but no they have not. I just now keep lots of them and change the little things when they do blow. Will eventually have to rethink what to replace the units with.

Generally reputable LED bulbs are better (not perfect!). Osram was normally a good brand from my dealings with them in other areas. The other issue is heat, bulbs will probably not be specified at high temperature, any enclosed fittings will up the temperature an make the electronics fail quicker. Try a lower wattage, this could reduce the heat.

This is a really old thread (October 2020) - not clear why it has been resurrected.

It doesn't appear there is anything useful to add now, unless the OP comes back for further advice.

There is probably a term of art for this, but what MeefAnol is doing is building their "reputation" by posting inane or low-value responses to various threads, and then once they've hit the threshold they will use the account to start spamming. It works because a) you can't immediately say "that's spam!" and report it and b) MeefAnol's responses are only slightly less useful than a lot of the genuine replies from the well-meaning-but-dim, so they fly under the radar.

  • Yes, I had the same problem with LED lights. Their main problem is that they do not withstand a fairly high voltage, and burnout occurs.

Poundland have stopped selling their range of cheap led lamps....except for a few vintage style ones. Maybe they had lamps fail that were less than the quoted 25000 hours lifespan.  Personal choice but I prefer using compact fluorescent lamps at 2700k warm white for main use and led 4000k fir kitchen and bathroom.

Anyone trying that will soon be spotted. It’s an old trick and well on the radar.

Let me know if you spot anyone trying to post spammy links. In this thread, for example.
