Ebay bidder who is 'Not a Registered User' - ?

I was 'watching' an item. Once the auction was over, I was looking  down the list of bids, and I saw several from 'Not a registered user'.  I wonder who this bidder was, and mischieviously even wondered if the seller was putting their own bids on?  Does anyone know the explanation?  Thanks.

AFAIK you can't bid without an account, you can only Buy Now as a guest. So, the other explanation is that buyer's account has been closed by eBay so his non existing nick does not display anymore.
