Just ask yourself, "What would Dominic Cummings do?" and the rest is pretty straightforward.

But public land is, er, public and there can be no expectation of privacy in a public place.
But you still have to comply with the requirements of the GDPR when recording info on a private CCTV syatem:

What is the law if my CCTV captures images of people outside my own home and garden?

If your CCTV captures images beyond your property boundary, such as your neighbours’ property or public streets and footpaths, then your use of the system is subject to the data protection laws.

  • Op concerning spikes to your fence you do need to fit warning sign as they can cause injury, the kit come with one!
Beware of the dog signs are also a good deterrent.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me 'Sir' without adding, 'You're making a scene.'

All very interesting but how do those principles apply to photographs in public places?  Take a ‘selfie’ (or indeed a video) in Trafalgar Square and you’ll likely capture the faces of many other people, but I’ve never heard of tourists being subject to data protection laws.
