    Blocked filter, blocked pipe?

As above - the first 2 things to check are the filter(s) and the waste pipe itself.  Check the whole length of the waste pipe, right up to the point where it attaches to the sink waste, or wherever you've got it draining into.  There's a good chance it's nothing more severe than a simple blockage in the drainage route somewhere along the line.

If that doesn't yield any results, check the manual or look online to see if there are any other likely causes.  Depending on what machine you've got, there may well be an error code of some description displayed that will will point you in the right direction.  Of course, it could be something like the pump has gone - but check the simple (and free!) stuff first, like filters and pipes.

Most modern dishwashers have flood prevention sensors in the bottom . If you have a pool of water in the bottom then it will activate the sensor and stop it filling or emptying.

The fault is normally a length of clear plastic tube in the bottom has either popped off or split . If that's the cause then replace or repair and then remove the excess water from the bottom . It should then run

  • I just pulled the dishwasher out and there is a pool of water behind it too. My dishwasher is a few years old so doesn't have any flood sensors but i noticed the pipe that goes into my sink drainage is all squashed (see photo)

That'll be it! A new hose is probably called for and a better route found so it doesn't get squashed as you push the appliance back.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Thanks!
I have a small space for the dishwasher so not sure what to do about the piper no squashing when I get a new pipe 🤷‍♀️
  • Move the pipe further back , not difficult to do , that pipe looks far too low anyway
  • when my dishwasher was not draining I looked on you tube and saw a post of our make that was blocked with tiny pieces of eggshell. Sure enough under the filter cover where the well for the pump inlet was it was full of mainly tiny egg shell pieces. Easy to clean and it was worked well ever since.
  • It was the bent pipe all sorted thanks 👏
