Landlord wants to redecorate our flat while we still live here - what are our options?

Just to correct a couple of misleading comments above.OP said "Our recent 12 month contract ran out and we are now on a rolling contract. "So all comments regarding security of tenure, and of rent, need to reflect this.If the tenant is too obstructive (as is indeed their right to protect their home) the LL might choose to serve* a s21 notice to end the tenancy (though see my previous comment on this)* a S13 Notice to increase the rent (likewise!)Post 5: Rent increases: when & how can rent be increased?Post 4: Ending/renewing an AST: what happens when a fixed term ends? How can a LL or tenant end a tenancy? What is a periodic tenancy?

incredible!Could anybody advise us as to our rights? Can we ask the landlord to complete the work on our terms instead of his? Does the landlord have to provide somewhere for us to stay or is that down to us?
Thanks so much.
This board is normally overwhelmed by tenants whining about LL not maintaining the property, yet you are whining about "not on our terms"
I suggest you buy a place of your own if that is your attitude to property maintenance, then you can complain to yourself as you seem unable to make up your own minds without needing "help" from the "internet".2 -
I agree with other posters that trying to arrange work, in your own home, on your own schedule is a major challenge - the good workmen are booked up on schedules of their own. So while a considerate landlord would ask the workmen if they could do the time you requested the answer could well be no.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

You can try and negotiate. Ask the landlord for a timescale, advise you can't remain in property while works are happening. Will he agree to put you up in a hotel for the duration of works so that the way is clear for the tradesmen and you are not exposed to potential Covid risk?0

Why not just paint it yourself instead of living in a shabby flat ? That’s what most people would do. If it is that much of problem, ask the landlord to pay for the paint and do it at your leisure, I am sure he will agreeable. If not continue living as you are and stop complaining to the letting agent or let the Landlord crack on and get the work done.... And no getting the work done over Christmas is not reasonable, you try finding trades who work over Christmas, maybe you could help him out and find someone yourselves ?0
