Cheapest bleach in Tesco is now 95p, no Value thin bleach or disinfectant available.

Seems to be a general trend in all stores since they started rationalising lines when people were panic buying in March.
The cheapest lines seem to be the ones getting axed in a lot of cases particularly those lines that haven't been replaced by "fake brands".

I'm sure it's a combination of genuine supply and demand issues in some markets and these products being sacrificed to keep other prices competitive, as any customer affected enough by the effective price rise of removing these options at tesco/asda etc to go elsewhere is probably not the most profitable customer.

There's probably also an effect from the increase in online shopping as these line's tended not to be available online so they've probably replaced these to be better stocked with normal own brands so they are less likely to lose on substitutions.

Still annoying when it happens to a product you particularly like though,  as these more basic lines do include a few gems in their line ups that just work better that the more expensive options.

  • This is the most recent ASDA smartprice topic I can find. I too have noticed that there's a dimishing number of Smartprice items available and every time I log on there are fewer. All our usual purchases are vanishing, I can see them in the "previous rders" section, but they're listed as unavailable and won't let me order them online. Their "alternatives" are all more expensive versions.
I sent them a message on Twitter to ask when is their 29p jam coming back in because it's been saying "unavalable" for months now. They said I could try an alternative as I may like it just as much and I said something along the lines of, unless it's also 29p I don't think I will.

I'm getting frustrated and my shopping list is getting smaller and smaller.
Do something today that your future self will thank you for.

They remove most of the smartprice items to make way for 'festive' displays.
  • Some smart price stuff tastes vile so good riddance to a lot of the lines
