Next Pay Store Card

So I have a Next online account which allows me a store card and we enter our local store looking for clothing. I find couple of pairs of jeans and the wife finds a top she likes.
The wife presented the store card and signed like she has always done in the past, some ten years or so. The cashiers says this is not your card and you cannot sign for it as it's in yours husbands name. Fair enough so I signed for it.  She then said that my wife is also not allowed to collect any future parcels, as again the account is in my name. This is something she has always done in the past as it's more convenient. So I decide to call Next to request an additional card on the account so my wife can shop without any future hassle.
I was shocked that Next do not provide second cards on their accounts and insist she has to set up her own account as they won't even change the account to her name!!. What a joke!!!

Of course we could buy everything on a credit card and return unwanted clothing back to the store for refund but then we will have to wait 7-10 days for that refund or we can have goods sent directly to our house for an additional fee, maybe that's another way of Next making money.

Are we alone here or are Next just behind the times?

No lender will change a credit account to someone else's name. Credit risk assessment is done on the individual, not the generic account.

If Next don't offer secondary cards, then they're correct in that your wife will need her own account.

I'm quite surprised that Next won't allow someone else to collect your parcel.
I've recently placed orders with Debenhams and Next and whilst Debenhams give instructions about what to do if someone else is collecting your parcel, Next don't.
  • Apparently only the cardholder can collect parcels for the cardholder.!!!
This has got to be one of the most antiquated businesses out there.

Maybe they flagged your account as a scammer. Hence the extra security protocol.  It business risk your wife could have left you, took the card ordered loads of stuff pick them up and then you be left with the bill. You would then open a thread saying next charged me for goods I never ordered. Why do you make you wife do the hard work. It's easier to open a account in her name seem something dogey is happening here.
