Hi - can someone help please. I have had several emails from aol stating ‘we are letting you know that AOL mail will no longer support third party applications (such as third party email, calendar or contact applications that weren’t developed by aol) using outdated sign in methods. We have noticed that you might be using one so we need to make some changes’
They then go on to give me 3 options- one of which is to download the AOL app for iOS.
I have an iPad and iPhone and my emails are on both the devices - which I have never had a problem with. Could someone tell me if this is genuine because one of the options given is to keep it as it is but I would have to click on a link in the email to sync them.
Any help will be gratefully received

I have received the same mail from Yahoo in the past. Both AOL and Yahoo are owned by Verizon Media, so the message could be genuine. The only bit you've described that I did not see is the "clicking a link in the email to sync" bit. The three options I got were:1: Use their app2: Remove then re-add the account within IOS' mail app3: Generate a one-time password solely for use with a specific mail clientDon't click any links within emails without knowing exactly what it's for or where it goes.1

They are upset that your emails accessed via another app or system bypasses all their data collection and
adverts.
That was my initial thinking and when logging into an account via a browser that is exactly what they want,
quite open about wanting to access your shop/advertising type emails.
Had to go through many accounts on the PC for both AOL and Yahoo. I moved all my important stuff away
from Yahoo and AOL a while back, so just general emails, i hope their system likes going through many
emails that some companies send on a daily basis.
