Signing on to HSBC banking on my Computer

What a palaver.
You need the HSBC app on your phone or tablet first before using your computer.
To sign-on to online banking on my computer I had to download the HSBC app to my phone but because I am old and can't see well and my fingers don't work properly, I ended up downloading it to my tablet which is bigger.
Whenever I need to sign-on on my computer I have to first open the app on my tablet.
That poor woman at HSBC must have wondered who she got her self involved with when I phoned to get online banking set up.
It took us about an hour.
And I thought it was bad enough waiting on a SMS on my phone before I could sign-on to my Nationwide banking.

All for £125, but it was worth it.

It sounds like you've set up a digital secure key, which means you'll indeed have to use the app before logging in on a computer.
There is such a thing as a physical secure key, which means not having to use the app every time. It's small and fiddly (I have one) but I believe a larger version is available.
If interested I'd call them again and say you want to change from a digital secure key to a large button physical secure key, I am not sure TBH if such a thing is possible as the FAQ online doesn't cover this eventuality.0 -
I have a secure key for my HSBC- I don't have a phone which accepts apps!!
The thingie is very fiddly but there might be a larger one available as M&S (same group) supplied me with one which not only has big buttons but also says the numbers. Very much easier.
Worth an ask- but that could involve a loooooooong phone wait.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Ask for a “physical” Secure Key instead but you’ll need to use your card with that one...0 -
HSBC physical secure key doesn't require use of card as it is not a traditional card reader.

I don't need to call them again, I don't even need to sign into the account ever again, I've got my £125 which I had promptly transferred into my main account.after a 0.99p test transfer.KxMx said:It sounds like you've set up a digital secure key, which means you'll indeed have to use the app before logging in on a computer.

The account can sit dormant until the next switch bonus comes along.
