Cancelled Christmas holiday home

Hi, I booked a holiday home in the UK for a week over Christmas for our extended family - it had all been paid for and last week the agency called to say the owners had cancelled the booking - no explanation?? I have already paid out deposit on a restaurant for Christmas lunch for 6. Tickets to various events for the children and adults to attend - I have explained this to agency who have informed me the owners will not compensate!! Is there anything I can do???

I would not imagine any consequential losses would be compensated.  I wonder whether you should be considering a trip with your extended family in any case - rule of six plus any local restrictions would apply.  Possibly this is why the people letting this house have cancelled your booking.

Is the holiday home within a tier that prohibits mixed household activity?  That could be a reason they cancelled.

I agree, that your consequential losses are not likely covered.  Are they in a heightened tier?

I assume that any host who allows visits that contravene the local covid restrictions is liable to be fined as would be the people gathering.  At least the OP has some notice of this - I imagine some Airbnb people are waiting to see what happens where they live and possibly cancelling at the last minute.
