Plumbing in a fridge freezer

Am looking to buy a new fridge-freezer, as the £1200 LG one we bought has just failed and we had issues with it since day 1 and several engineer visits but LG washed their hands of it. We've successfully claimed against AO under the Consumer Rights act and a pro rata refund is in flight so we need to arrange the replacement.

The current one we have is non-plumbed but its a chore filling up the water all the time so looking at plumbed - is it a fairly straightforward job for a plumber to do this and if so what sort of costs are we looking at? the unit will sit at the end of our kitchen worktops, so i presume they put a pipe under the worktop kick-stands and this will be a flexible pipe rather than a copper pipe a bit like with dishwashers etc?

I've read its recommended that it is 1.5m to the stop tap, is this a hard rule or is a bit more distance ok? It's 1.8m to our stop tap itself which sits in one cupboard, however our washing machine and dishwasher both connect in the cupboard next to that (under the sink) and I'd have thought it's in there that this would connect? I've seen kits on amazon that include 15m of pipe so i presume it is possible but want to understand if any issues with this.

Genenerally, it's a very simple job, even for a good DIYer.  I've done this once, and, IIRC, plastic pipe in the kit for Samsung was much longer than 1.8m.

Yeah I've just looked at the manual and it states samsung suggest no more than 5m, so no idea why everything online seems to say 1.5m as surely many peoples fridges will be further away than that!
  • Its a straightforward job for a diyer , the plastic pipe is thin and flexible and easy to run under kitchen units

Install and enjoy your new fridge freezer
