Damp Guarantee

Good Afternoon Everyone
Does anyone know where I can buy a Damp Proofing Guarantee? My Contractor went out of business and I desperately need it for the house sale! Would really appreciate some help and direction here. The work was around £10k so I need cover for that.

  • I have also tried the Property Care Association and nothing positive at all from them.

Surely you chose a company that offered an insurance backed guarantee? If so, claim on the insurance (assuming you have reason to claim).
    If not......
But seriously - no one will offer to guarantee someone else's work.
As for you sale - simply tell the buyer you had the work done (as babyblade says - let's hope it was not some pointless chemical injection that will more than likely put off your buyer), the contractor is no longer in business, so there is no guarantee. The buyer can then decide whether to have a damp survey done, buy without, or walk away.
  • No insurance and yes chemical injections and replastering. Must be someone offering guarantees I will keep searching thanks!

Even if you did find someone to guarantee the work, it would be so full of cop out clauses to be worthless - Kinda goes hand in hand with the work done.
Slap on some sticky plasters to hide the problem, offer a guarantee, go out of business. Phoenix the company, do another bunch of "repairs", rinse and repeat,
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

You know you don't need to ask really don't you baby!
The nice salesman surveyor from the dp company said "the walls are damp and the house will fall down, but chemical injection would sort it. Oh! and by the way, we can do the job if you like. It will only be £10 grand as it's you, but usually it's £15K."

Can we keep it to just 6 or 7 threads on this subject? Let's not go crazy here.
  • Yes its a Phoenix same Directors have set up another damp company and joined PCA for credibility, my question is should I actually believe Kenwood Plc or get a second report, and if so, who from? seems a very dodgy industry!

It's horrendous how many people get sucked into this , and it's not just a few pennies either .

The worst problem we had renovating our latest house ... took me blasted ages to figure it out and yet was staring me in the face. ...arial cable !!!

Whole financial outlay for repairing and solving the damp was just under 1K .. chimneys  x2  a few dodgy roof slates plus the plasterer to re do walls and a bit of digging .
