This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark and damp. Air is cool.
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying first my cuppa, but have yet to shower, dress and have my porridge. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight will bill hot roasted chicken thighs, pizza, jacket potato, beans cheese and side salad.
Yesterday I got more jobs done that were needed.
We will be having an otherwise chilled weekend.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning folks. Thanks for starting us off NMLC.I'm idling until it's time to rouse myself properly. Then I'll do the usual Saturday shopping. DM's friend is coming round for crosswords and cake. I did the cake buying yesterday so that saves me a trip. Later on I have an appointment for my flu jag at the local health centre, should be in and out in five minutes.Last night I ordered a cheeky wee Chinese takeaway and then hardly ate any of it so there's plenty for today and probably tomorrow too. I had a 50% off voucher so it's very MSE 😃
One of my closest ex-colleagues-come-friend is moving abroad for a really fabulous new job and I have mixed emotions about it. It's a brilliant time for him though it's breaking up a tight-knit group of four friends. It'll be strange.Anyway, I hope that everyone is doing OK and wish you all a happy Saturday.14 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
A grey morning but not as cold as it was yesterday. I really enjoyed my walk, the garden I visit regularly with a friend has been closed for some months and it has enabled the staff and volunteers to do quite a bit of replanting and adding features. It was really beautiful and full of rich, spicy autumnal smells. We saw three herons in a tree but either they were stationary herons or pretend ones glued to the branches. A few old and dying trees have been cut down and images or patterns carved into the stumps. The gardens are sheltered but not so the terrace where we had coffee, that really was cold. You can only be in the café if you are from the same household. And there are hand sanitiser stations at the entrance and before you line up at a distance for coffee. Today I might just have a little local walk - soon enough it will be back to the rain and walking in the rain is less appealing.
Other than a walk and cleaning the bathroom , no interesting plans today so I will wish everyone a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning
Well it seems I can't work the smilies properly – they keep rearranging themselves, lol. Hopefully I can make them behave today.
I can't find a way to change settings on this site, a while back I changed my laptop settings and it worked BUT everything else was too dark! So I changed back and will just have to put up with very short visits here.
I've decided not to look for more chickens until the spring, it'll give me time to tweak the chicken run a bit and look into rescue places near me.
Xmas songs – definitely yes
I've planted seven acorns in pots, I have no idea if they'll grow and if they do, I have no idea what I'll do with them
I have a nice quiet weekend planned. Mr tru is working today and is meeting a couple of mates in Taunton tomorrow for The Great Annual Chilli Swap. They try to out-do each other with homemade sauces etc. and secretly hope they can finally succeed in killing off each other's taste buds.
I'm attempting to get everything done before lunch today so I can enjoy the peace and quiet, catch up on my favourite programs and eat chocolate. I've already cleaned the kitchen and the second load of washing is about to go in the machine. I'll clean out the chicken shed in a mo, then have a shower and take the barky one out for a stroll. I've bought him a big bone – sold as Dino Bones in our local feed place, lol – so that should keep him quiet while I have my lazy weekend

Morning All
Dull, cold and wintery this morning but the house is warm while I'm pottering about. I've made soup, had breakfast of baked beans and poached egg and sorted out the herbs and spices - ashamed to say I found a jar of something that had a bbf date of 2016! I don't mind these things being a bit out of date but that's pushing it.
Good trip to Glasgow yesterday, I bought much needed new underwear and 2 pairs of not really needed shoes but I did get 20% off so it would have been rude not to. Called to see DD on my way home, she was very vocal.
I got some ex battery hens tru, lovely to see them change from frightened bald hens to confident fluffy hens and they carried on laying.
Glad you enjoyed your trip AOD, sounds beautiful.
Allotment today to clear the little greenhouse and maybe some shopping if I can be bothered, if not the freezer is well stocked.
Have a good weekend. Take care. XX13 -
Morning all
Its a bit dull and overcast here but no rain due today I have a towel wash on the go and another to go in after, I must have a word with OH as he seems to be using a clean towel every day which is really not necessary !!
Housework today and then a good walk with the dogs we will probably go further afield and for a longer walk today seeing as we have more time with everyone off work, might even stop for a beer somewheredinner tonight will be chicken goujons with chips and some coleslaw, I need to get a small white cabbage for the coleslaw though and i need some tea-bags as we are nearly out and that would be a disaster !!
I have an appointment next week with a company that make bra's for post op ladies who have had a mascectomy, they put one on you while you are still asleep so that you wake with one on, I shall have to get a couple, she was a lovely lady who had a mastectomy herself and we had a good chat on the phone, I hope she is there on the day as she was lovely and really put you at ease.
Right better get on the washing has finished.
Have good days all xx

Morning all, it's overcast here but dry and breezy.Yesterday my emotions were up and down like the buses and I found it difficult to get to sleep last night, my brain just wouldn't shut down. It seems we may be in for another full lockdown, we'll know on Monday. We didn't get round to checking our van yesterday but went in the other direction and spent a small fortune at the meat van instead
Mr fix It wanted a piece of beef, not something I normally buy but it's for a special meal, our anniversary and Dad's birthday on the same day ( I'm hoping he will be able to come over ). I shall have to freeze it as it's for next week but I took the opportunity to purchase my meat yesterday as there wasn't a queue. It's outdoors in a car park but it can be very busy on a Friday. I also bought a very large pack of bacon and a large stick of black pudding, both of which I will split and freeze today, it's cheaper to buy that way, so saves the pennies in the long run
Today I have stripped the bed and the bedding is in the wm now. I shall hang it out but I don't know if it will dry...... it will have a bit of fresh air anyway, I'll have to put it over the airer in the spare room to finish off. I will dust and hoover the bedroom and later remake the bed. I 'll have a freezer dip for something for tea and maybe rearrange the small freezer as I've forgotten what's in there again. I make lists but then I forget to cross items off or lose the lists all together.
Right enough from the welsh waffler. I need to give myself a shake today and think positively.Take care all, stay safe and keep sane ( even I'm having trouble to do the latter ) Hugs to anyone in need.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently14 -
Morning all.
I started on reading forums a couple of hours ago and have just stopped myself. It's too easy to get lost in following up links and there are so many interesting threads around, I could (and do) spend far too long poking about.
Anyway, here we are halfway through the morning and nothing achieved as yet.
I am considering starting to get my summer clothes packed away under the bed and the winter clothes released from their vacuum bags and hung out to air while the weather is still good. Only considering it so far, but it's a step in the right direction.
Apart from thinking about doing something useful, it's Saturday. Newspaper and puzzles day, so maybe the useful things will have to wait.
MSE content....I am not going shopping, not going to the theatre, not going to a ball, not booking a cruise........that is quite a packet saved already.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Never let me fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted. (Ralph Wald Emerson)I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A bit dismal here but at least it's fairly mild and dry so not complaining.
That's the excitement of the day over! I got the 8.45 bus into town and the 9.40 bus back up. It just gave me time to pop in Savers for some hair products, the cheapo grocery shop for some cheese and cereal bars and finally Poundland for some more odd bits. I begrudge paying sm prices for stuff to be delivered that I can find cheaper in town! (That's my MSE bit for the day done!) Still very quiet down there but will doubtless busy up a bit later.
DD texted earlier to ask if I had heard the drama hereabouts during the night! I thought I was a poor sleeper but I heard nothing! She said it was on the village FB page that cars had been zooming around, people seen running through gardens and finally the police in attendance. Goodness knows what all that was about but I slept through it!
So no plans for the rest of the day. There are plenty of jobs I could find to do if I felt so inclined but blow that for a game of soldiers. I'll try and summon up the enthusiasm to start a new book but if not there will be some rubbish to watch on tv. But tonight the first Strictly to look forward to. I don't know how it will all work with quarantining and distancing etc but I'm sure I will enjoy it all the same!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Take care and stay safe xx
