Electric hob cover

I live in rented accommodation and have a really crappy electric hob in my kitchen. I also have two cats that quite like to jump up onto the work surfaces when trying to escape each other's advances
This morning one of the cats decided to jump onto the very hot electric hob (it all happened in slow motion and i wasn't able to get to him before he landed) and as you might imagine didn't really like what he landed on. Does anyone know of a product that i could put over the hob once i've stopped using it but it's still hot to prevent something like this happening again? I seem to only be able to find covers for induction hobs and then they're only to protect from scratches or for hobs that are cold not when the hob is still hot.
Thanks in advance to anyone who is a better googler than i!

Metal hob covers will be hot if the hob is hot.
I'm with the post from john. He/she won't be quick to do that again.0 -
A couple of large deep baking trays might do the job. Although, if the hob is like this one - ttps://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/cooking/hobs/essentials-csphobx15-electric-solid-plate-hob-stainless-steel-10118651-pdt.html - You'll need something pretty deep.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
