National Insurance

Options
Hello,
can you tell me exactly how many years you need to pay in to NI to get the full pension? My DOB is 1960. I did 3 years at university and I thought it counted towards NI but I see very confusing information on websites saying it doesn't count. The site says I have 41 full years but need 3 year more. Another website says I need 35 years. How much would I pay to top up if needed. So confused.
Thank you.

Best thing would be a State pension forecast. You are partly in the old system and now in the new one.

  • I was born in 1959 3 years ago my state pension forecast was just over £205 a week, possibly because I never contracted out in my 50's by the time I reach SRP age in 4.5 years i'm expecting a pension of around £230 a week.
