Multi-Monitor Setup using Laptop

There is absolutely no way of getting a single HDMI port to drive 2 monitors independently - HDMI only support a single display channel. Display port on the other hand can split into 2 independent monitors.
Have you got a Thunderbolt 3 port on the laptop? If so, this will work, I use it for my Dell Laptop with 2x monitors - all 3 including the laptop display work independently.

With only 1 usb port you will be better off getting a docking station/port replicator0

I tried a few port replicators with two hdmi connections and usb, lan etc but on a surface go 2 whilst it worked it complained about not charging properly and I didn't want to use an extra power source so I bought the adaptor I mentioned but it had in addition to the two hdmi a usb 3 port. As it was small for traveling with and only 23 euros it did what I needed0

OP still needs to come back and tell us the exact laptop model ... until they do so then anything said is speculation as to whether it will work.0
