Strange letter from Homeserve

It seems quite surprising they are refunding the full premium. I would have thought it would have been sufficient that they refund the increase.
Mind, it is a huge increase.

Just received a similar letter from our car insurers (RIAS).
Mr S was all over this at our last renewal - he keeps previous documents to compare, obtains other quotes, then rings insurer to say that he could get the same amount of cover elsewhere for cheaper - and what can they offer. He got this year's insurance down to £5 less than last year's.
The way I read this letter was that the insurance company had been required, by law, to print last year's premium next to the current premium, so those not as organised as Mr S could see that it had changed. We just ignored the letter.0 -
I received the same homeserve letter and after declining the £25 offer I was contacted by Customer Relations and they have refunded full years premium paid into my account. Don't accept first offer !!0

I had already cancelled the policy before I received the letter.0
