Hi,
We booked a flight to Tenerife on 21 February 2020. This was before coronavirus was mentioned in the UK.
The booking was with lastminute.com, online, and paid by credit card. The booking for Aberdeen - Tenerife with Tu, flight only.
The flight is due on 23 December 2020, returning 06 January 2021.
With the current situation, we do not want to travel and wondered if we could get a refund and how to go about it. What other options do we have?
Do we go to lastminute, or Tui and ask them or wait to see what the situation is in December?
Thanks.

  • The latter. In any case the route may be cancelled yet.  You cant just ring up and demand a refund for a flight leaving in 2 months just because you dont want to get on it.

You will need to contract whoever your contract is with. I assume that this is LM, not TUI.

A lot can change between now and December, however it's probably worth bearing in mind that most flights I've been on in the last few months have been less than half full, so there will be space to stretch out and relax on the actual flight.

It may be worth contacting LM to see what your options are, however my insurer (underwritten by Aviva, and I use this as a guide) is using the 30 day mark to decide how to proceed. It therefore may be worth waiting until this stage at least before deciding how to proceed if you're in any way unsure.

You aren't automatically covered for change of mind for a refund unless this is covered on an insurance policy, which bearing in mind you booked in February may be, as it's been considered that Coronavirus has only been a 'known event' since around March 16.

Just to add to this TUI Airways are still currently flying that route and your flight numbers so would be unlikely to cancel.  Plan for the flight to go ahead.
  • In which case then, assuming its a flight only booking, the OP is on a hiding to nothing. Will be a travel insurance claim.

Thanks for the replies. We will wait until mid Nov to see what our options are.
