No one knows I’m leaving

I started in my current role last year. I kind of fell into it without too much thought as I was desperate for a job so took a role in an industry I had no experience in. I did pretty well and worked hard from home throughout lockdown to the point I was offered a promotion on return to the office with a pay rise. I’m miserable though. I’m on call 24 hours a day for £23,000 a year which is pretty poor. The work is awful so I looked for another job. I got one quite quickly - much more in line with my skill set and experience and I can’t wait to start.
My issue is my boss won’t let me tell anyone I’m leaving. There’s 2 fairly new starts to the business that I was training up and I’m not allowed to tell them I’m going. It’s awkward and making things uncomfortable. My boss is not happy with me at all. They counter offered for me to stay and I politely declined. The new role is awesome for me and I’m not walking away from that for a few more quid.
I’m not being asked to do any kind of handover. I’m just expected to walk out on my last day and not tell anyone.
I understand that my boss gets to tell me what and how to do my job but does anyone have any advice on how I can handle the situation? I only have 2 weeks to do. I’m bored as I’m not getting any work and as I’ve been pulled off training the new guys I’m a bit lost. I’m thinking of writing up a handover and emailing it the last second before I leave but should I even bother?
I guess I just need advice as to how to best handle the situation. It’s not something I’ve faced before and it’s all a little odd.

You cant be on call 24hrs a day every day, because on call or not, you're entitled to rest periods.
You're boss cant stop you talking.3 -
I work in recruitment so I’m expected to answer phone calls and texts regardless of the time they come in. Sorry if I worded it in a confusing manner.0

What day do you get paid on? Is it on the 30th (your last day is 2 weeks tomorrow I assume)? Just start talking then, not as if he can do anything about it like (illegally) withhold your pay.1

My last day is 29th and payment date should be 30th. I guess I’m best downloading some books and catching up in some reading! I just find it weird that I’m not being asked to handover anything. They new staff don’t know the systems yet, my contracts or how some of the more complex stuff runs. I’ve never had a situation where people don’t know you’re leaving!0

If your employer is saying he doesn't want other staff to know you are leaving you need to comply with that. If you are leaving the day before your pay is due to hit your account there is little or no chance that your pay could be stopped if you informed people of your departure on the final afternoon. If you socialise with work colleagues you could always 'let it slip' when you are out with them.1

Just say nothing, but on the last day bring in cakes and maybe a card, saying thanks for all the work / laughs/ etc and put in the communal break area ir similar

Does anyone need to know you're leaving? It might be an odd request but if it gets you a smooth closure might just be easier to get the head down and crack on. It's not like you'll be taking any subsequent problems with you...1

I’m thinking I just need to find something to distract myself in the day as I have nothing to do. I think you’re right. Keep my head down it’s not long to go!0

does sound to me like the boss probably knows peoples work might get a bit difficult afterward so just doesn't want to make a big thing of it. if its of no consequence to you i'd leave them to it - no point rocking the boat unless theres something to be won2
