COVID 19 - Fit To Fly

All
Fit To Fly certificates, or letters were around long before the outbreak of COVID 19, with there sole aim being to inform the chosen airline that you are, as the Certificate states – Fit to Fly.  Now I am seeing more and more companies offering a ‘Fit To Fly’ COVID test, which basically means that along with the test you will receive a Certificate/Letter stating that you are ‘Fit To Fly’, assuming you have a negative test.    The test being performed is a standard PCR test, but because of the Fit To Fly status the companies are charging on average around 30% more.
I have been travelling since June, flying to various countries around Europe and I have yet to be asked by an airline for a COVID test certificate, and yet these companies are claiming that airlines are asking for it.  I have conducted some research on-line, and I cannot find a single airline company asking for the certificate.  Additionally the companies are also claiming that certain countries will only accept ‘Fit To Fly’ certificates, if you are required to test within a certain number of hours prior to arrival, which is illogical as you might arrive in the country by ferry!!!

Is this just another example of companies ‘jumping on the band-wagon’ so to speak, in the hope of making money out of everyone’s confusion, because it is confusing?

 Thanks

P

Certain countries such as Cyprus are insisting on it, so I wouldnt say its a bandwagon, more reacting to this demand from certain worldwide governments.  Go and look at the FCO page for Cyprus.

If people are paying through the nose for this certificate when they dont need to, more fool them.
  • Yeah I know about Cyprus - it is the same as Italy and various other countries, in that you have to provide a negative test that has been taken within 'x' number of hours before travelling.  My point is, that these need to be standard PCR tests with a negative result, they do not need to get a Fit to Fly certificate, which costs extra money.

I, and my colleagues have been testing for several months, as we travel a lot, and we have never been asked for a Fit to Fly certificate.

But like you say, if people are buying them, then more fool them.

    Cheers
