Too subtle for me! I thought your post was helpful and thanked you. I looked at the images, and noted some similarity. I saw the entry for the box made by James W. Queen of Philadelphia. Have I missed something else?

Many thanks for your help. The  names 'Wheatstone Bridge' and 'Post Office Box' have given me the right words to Google (Google images couldn't identify it as anything other than a 'box'). I haven't found an exact match, but I have found some similar items on E-Bay, and I think the postage is probably more than the value!
Forget ebay, take it to your nearest proper auction house and see what they say.

No, because your post, or rather link didn't show the item itself.

Apologies, not being too subtle but pic 5 in that link is a similar unit by the same manufacturer (as you said in your recent post) and given a value (at some time or other ) of $208. Indicating that (as was also recently posted) it would be worth taking it to a professional valuer rather than maybe just accepting a few pounds on off eBay!

I hadn't picked up on your thanks (doh!) but of your two part question (what, value) it is probably a better unit than in the link so maybe worth this posts emphasis, even with that bit of damage especially if it still works well!

EDIT: It could be that you are not interested in the finance aspect and if that is the case (or even if it is not) you could possibly get in touch with the author of that link -there is a link to the home page at the foot of it. The Prof. has photographed collections of similar item from all over the world and there might well be a lot of interest in your unit!
